Az Navy Salary information

What is the salary of an AZ in the Navy?

An Aviation Maintenance Administrationman (AZ) in the U.S. Navy typically starts with an annual base pay of around $25,000 to $30,000 as an E-1 or E-2, but this increases with rank and years of service. Additional allowances, such as Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), can significantly increase total compensation, especially if stationed in high-cost areas or with dependents. Over time, with promotions and longer service, an AZ's salary can rise to $50,000 or more annually. Bonuses and special pay may also be available depending on duty assignments and qualifications.

What are some common career progression paths for an AZ in the Navy?

As an AZ in the Navy, you'll start by handling administrative tasks related to aircraft maintenance, such as managing records and reports. With experience, you can advance to supervisory roles, overseeing larger teams and more complex operations. Some AZs move into specialized positions or become subject matter experts, while others may pursue commissioning programs to become officers. The role offers a clearly defined rank structure, and career growth is supported by ongoing training and performance evaluations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Navy aviation maintenance technician (AZ), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Navy Aviation Maintenance Technician (AZ), you need a solid understanding of aircraft maintenance procedures, record-keeping, and logistics, typically supported by a high school diploma and completion of Navy technical training. Familiarity with maintenance management systems, aviation software, and Navy-specific administrative tools is crucial. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication help ensure accuracy and efficiency in maintaining detailed maintenance records. These skills are vital for supporting mission readiness, safety, and regulatory compliance within naval aviation operations.
