What are axels in figure skating?

An axel is a type of jump in figure skating that is considered one of the most difficult and important elements. It is unique because it takes off from a forward outside edge and requires an extra half rotation compared to other jumps. Skaters land the axel on the opposite foot they took off from, and the jump can be performed as a single, double, triple, or even quadruple axel, depending on the number of rotations completed in the air.

Job description

Job Description:
POLITICO is sharpening and expanding its focus on a growing segment of our professional readership: investors, financial institutions, and business leaders who rely on early, credible reporting and intelligence about how policy and politics shape markets.
We're seeking an entrepreneurial editorial leader to serve as Editorial Director, Investor Intelligence, responsible for driving POLITICO's newsroom efforts to deliver for this audience - developing and executing an editorial and product strategy that bridges our unmatched policy coverage with the needs of financial professionals.
This is a unique opportunity to define how POLITICO expands its reach and relevance with a new class of professional subscribers - building on our authority in Washington and the states to serve readers who translate policy change into capital decisions. This newsroom role, reporting up to the Editor in Chief, will also be part of a new unit within POLITICO Media Group headed by the Chief Growth Officer focused on deepening the value of our journalism to investors and financial professionals. In partnership with the Chief Growth Officer, this person will work closely with key POLITICO leaders in North America and Europe.
Who You Are:
  • You can deepen engagement with readers who interpret political and regulatory change through a financial lens.
  • You can position POLITICO as the essential bridge between policy expertise and market intelligence and capital flows.
  • You can bring a new subscription product to market for a professional audience.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop an editorial strategy that delivers insights for investment and portfolio risk management professionals, going beyond POLITICO's current focus on policy- and government affairs professionals.
  • Define the editorial voice and standards that differentiate POLITICO's investor-facing content - clear, timely, actionable - while rooted in POLITICO's depth and authority.
  • Build a small, high-performing team of journalists and editors focused on serving investor and financial audiences, and work collaboratively across POLITICO's coverage centers.

What You'll Need:
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to operate in a fast-paced, innovative editorial and publishing environment
  • Strong experience in financial, policy, or professional journalism.
  • Deep understanding of how investors and financial institutions use news and data to make decisions.
  • Proven ability to work across editorial, product, and commercial functions to build and scale professional subscription products
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to translate complex fiscal, monetary, and regulatory developments into market-relevant insight.

About Us.
POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.
Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes.
Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals-Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York-form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist.
Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself.
These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization.
POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company's guiding principles - first articulated as The Essentials by founder Axel Springer in the aftermath of World War II - remain a cornerstone of the company's foundation today.
