AWS & Web Application Business Analyst

FullTime Washington, DC, US

Salary Range: $125,000.00 To $145,000.00 Annually

Position Information:

BreakForth Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior AWS and Web Application Business Analyst (BA) to support the AWS Cloud development effort for our federal customer’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The candidate will serve as a key liaison among business stakeholders, Product Owners, developers, testers, and leadership to gather and analyze requirements, translate business needs into actionable development requirements, and support the successful delivery of modern web applications within an AWS Cloud environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong business analysis, requirements management, Agile delivery, and stakeholder facilitation skills. The successful candidate will develop user stories and acceptance criteria, manage and refine product backlogs, facilitate Agile/Scrum activities, coordinate cross-functional teams, support UAT and solution validation, and drive continuous improvement throughout the software development lifecycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Gather, analyze, document, validate, and prioritize business, functional, system, and user requirements for AWS-based web application development initiatives.
  • Translate business and user needs into clear, actionable user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, process flows, and other requirements documentation.
  • Develop and maintain As-Is and To-Be process documentation, Business Process Models (BPM), context diagrams, workflows, and gap analyses.
  • Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, working sessions, brainstorming activities, and discussions with business stakeholders, Product Owners, developers, testers, and other technical team members.
  • Create, refine, prioritize, and maintain product backlogs, ensuring requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, priorities, and dependencies remain aligned with business goals and customer needs.
  • Facilitate Agile/Scrum activities as needed, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Identify, track, and facilitate resolution of project risks, issues, impediments, and dependencies; elevate items requiring stakeholder or leadership action as appropriate.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities among business stakeholders, Product Owners, developers, testers, and other technical team members to support successful solution delivery.
  • Partner with development and testing teams throughout the software development lifecycle to clarify requirements, resolve gaps, and ensure delivered functionality aligns with intended business outcomes.
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and support validation of delivered solutions against documented requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work with the AWS/Web Application teams and stakeholders to gather and prioritize business and user requirements against the clear objectives articulated for the AWS development project(s).
  • Track sprint and project progress, outstanding actions, risks, dependencies, and delivery status and communicate relevant information to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance and user feedback to support data-driven decisions and future product enhancements.
  • Serve as a primary point of coordination for product and requirements-related questions, issues, and stakeholder needs.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve requirements management, Agile processes, team workflows, collaboration, and overall software delivery effectiveness.
  • Support Agile maturity and continuous improvement through effective facilitation, retrospectives, coaching, and implementation of agreed-upon process improvements.

Education/Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in business analysis and requirements documentation.
  • A combination of relevant education and professional experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering and analyzing business and user requirements for web applications and translating requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, process flows, and other actionable development documentation.
  • Experience developing As-Is/To-Be documentation, Business Process Models, workflows, context diagrams, gap analyses, or similar process and requirements artifacts.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile software development environments and actively facilitating Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
  • Experience creating, refining, prioritizing, and managing product backlogs in collaboration with Product Owners and cross-functional development teams.
  • Experience identifying, tracking, and facilitating resolution of risks, issues, impediments, and dependencies affecting software delivery.
  • Experience coordinating UAT and validating delivered functionality against business requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience coordinating and collaborating with business stakeholders, Product Owners, developers, testers, technical teams, and leadership.
  • Ability to understand technical concepts and effectively translate between business and technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to organize, analyze, and communicate complex information accurately.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently within a fast-paced Agile development environment.
  • Ability to work within the required hybrid work schedule.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Desired Skills:

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Product Owner, or comparable Product Owner certification.
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or comparable Agile/Scrum certification.
  • Experience supporting AWS Cloud development initiatives within a federal IT or OCIO organization.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement or Agile maturity initiatives.
  • Experience coaching teams or stakeholders on effective Agile practices.
  • Familiarity with web application security concepts, including encryption, hashing, authentication, and related security considerations.
