Position Description:

Designs, implements, and optimizes large-scale, cloud database systems to ensure high availability, security, and performance for enterprise applications. Automates the deployment and migration of PostgreSQL and Oracle databases into Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure. Works on multiple databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, Cockroach, Yugabyte, MySQL, SQL Server, and MariaDB. Modernizes existing automation capabilities, crafting new end-to-end deployment capabilities, and migrates business unit partners to new data services automations in AWS and Azure. Develops end-to-end applications using scripting languages -- Python, PowerShell, Shell Scripting, Ansible, Terraform, Go, Ruby, and Perl. Leverages CloudFormation, YML, Vault, Bitbucket, Artifactory, CloudWatch, and DataDog to determine performance metrics, event monitoring for infrastructure and cloud services, enable automated Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), and collect monitoring and operational data in the form of logs, metrics, and events. Builds, tests, and deploys software applications using pipeline automation tools -- Jenkins, Jenkins Core, uDeploy, and Concourse.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and leads enterprise-level data architecture strategies.
  • Develops and implements advanced data engineering frameworks.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology
  • initiatives.
  • Advise senior leadership on data infrastructure and technology solutions.
  • Mentors junior engineers.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple divisional initiatives.
  • Develops innovative solutions to support scalable, secure, and high-performance data environments.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Cloud Engineer (or closely related occupation) building, deploying and maintaining multi-cloud continuous delivery platforms for releasing cloud-native enterprise applications using PostgreSQL and cloud technologies (AWS and Azure).

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Cloud Engineer (or closely related occupation) building, deploying and maintaining multi-cloud continuous delivery platforms for releasing cloud-native enterprise applications using PostgreSQL and cloud technologies (AWS and Azure).

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") designing and developing DevOps CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins for initial deployment and ongoing maintenance of public cloud solutions (AWS and Azure); developing platform automation tools using CloudFormation Templates, PowerShell, YAML, JSON, and Python; implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using CloudFormation and Terraform; and performing monthly upgrade releases using Jenkins and PowerShell.
  • DE designing and developing distributed database solutions (YugabyteDB and CockroachDB) on public cloud environments; developing automation scripts for feature enhancements following standard Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes across environments; and implementing Linux machine rehydration workflows.
  • DE designing and configuring SQL Server database services, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) in on-premises and Azure environments; and deploying reports in standalone and clustered configurations using CI/CD pipelines.
  • DE designing and configuring Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, DHCP address blocks, DNS settings, security policies, and firewall rules for database services.
