What is an AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer?

An AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a professional who designs, deploys, manages, and maintains cloud-based solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS). They are responsible for setting up and optimizing cloud environments to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure for applications and services. Their duties often include configuring virtual networks, automating deployments, monitoring system performance, and implementing best security practices in the cloud. They work closely with development and operations teams to support business needs and ensure efficient use of AWS resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer?

To thrive as an AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you need a solid understanding of cloud architecture, networking, and security principles, typically demonstrated through relevant experience or a degree in computer science or IT. Familiarity with AWS services (such as EC2, S3, VPC), Infrastructure as Code tools (like Terraform or CloudFormation), and certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and effective communication skills help engineers excel when troubleshooting and working in cross-functional teams. These skills ensure reliable, scalable, and secure cloud environments that align with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges faced by AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineers when managing large-scale deployments?

AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring high availability and scalability of resources, managing costs effectively, and maintaining robust security across multiple services. Coordinating updates or changes across distributed systems without causing downtime can be complex, especially as environments grow. Additionally, keeping up with AWS's rapidly evolving suite of services requires continuous learning and adaptation. Engineers frequently collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to address these challenges and deliver reliable cloud solutions.

Job description

Build the Cloud Foundation Behind Sony Interactive Entertainment

Every day, engineering teams across Sony Interactive Entertainment rely on the platforms we build to deliver secure, resilient, and scalable services. IT Cloud Foundations engineers the cloud capabilities that power enterprise business systems, developer platforms, and data services across the company.

Our customers are both engineers and the businesses they support. Every improvement we make to automation, reliability, security, and cloud infrastructure directly accelerates engineering teams while improving the reliability of critical business services.

The solutions we build become reusable capabilities that scale across the enterprise-not just for a single application or project.

Our mission isn't simply to manage cloud infrastructure-it's to engineer the secure, scalable cloud platform that enables Sony Interactive Entertainment to operate, innovate, and grow.

More Than Infrastructure

Some days you'll provision new AWS infrastructure, expand cloud networking, or enable new application environments. Other days you'll automate repetitive work, improve observability, or build reusable cloud capabilities. We believe every infrastructure request is an opportunity to improve the platform through automation, reusable engineering patterns, and thoughtful design.

The Challenges You'll Help Us Solve
  • Reduce manual operational work through automation.
  • Improve cloud governance without slowing engineering teams down.
  • Deliver secure, resilient AWS infrastructure for business-critical services.
  • Evolve Kubernetes, observability, and engineering platforms.
What You'll Work On
  • AWS infrastructure, networking, IAM, compute, storage, and shared cloud services.
  • Terraform, Python, Infrastructure as Code, and automation.
  • Partnering with Networking, Security, Identity, Database, Platform, Data, and Application Engineering.
  • Kubernetes (EKS), CI/CD, observability, governance, and operational excellence.
Technology You'll Work With

AWS Terraform Kubernetes/EKS Helm Python GitHub Actions GitOps Lambda IAM Route 53 Transit Gateway CloudWatch Datadog Prometheus Grafana Cloud Custodian

How We Engineer
  • Build cloud infrastructure that is secure, resilient, automated, and designed to evolve with the business.
  • Automate first whenever a pattern is repeatable.
  • Build security and governance into every solution.
  • Partner across engineering organizations to deliver better outcomes.
  • Continuously improve the platform through practical, measurable engineering.
  • Use AI where it meaningfully improves engineering outcomes.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving problems, are curious about how things work, and continually look for better ways to deliver secure, reliable cloud infrastructure. If you see automation opportunities where others see repetitive work and enjoy partnering across engineering teams, you'll fit right in.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating AWS infrastructure using IaC.
  • Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, CI/CD, and cloud networking.
  • Strong troubleshooting and automation skills.
  • AWS certification is a plus.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
Required Experience
  • Experience building, deploying, and supporting AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on IaC experience and Terraform.
  • Experience with Kubernetes administration and containerized applications.
  • Experience developing automation using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of AWS networking concepts including VPCs, routing, VPNs, security groups, and load balancing.
  • Experience administering Linux systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud infrastructure, networking, compute, and storage.
  • Experience using monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Experience using Git source control.
  • Understanding of cloud security best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within Agile teams.
Technology Evolves. So Do We.

We value curiosity, ownership, continuous learning, and engineers who continually challenge themselves-and us-to build better platforms, automate intelligently, and raise the standard for cloud engineering.

Join us in building the cloud foundation that enables Sony Interactive Entertainment to operate, innovate, and scale securely.
