Job Description

AECOM is seeking an accomplished Associate Vice President (AVP) - Surface Transportation Lead to provide strategic leadership for our Transportation business across the State of Indiana. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on advancing operational excellence, driving project delivery, developing high-performing teams, and executing a long-term vision for sustainable growth. The AVP will serve as the Surface Transportation Business Line Leader for Indiana, overseeing the successful delivery of complex transportation programs while establishing the strategy, priorities, and organizational direction necessary to grow and strengthen the practice. This individual will lead a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and technical professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence. While client relationships and strategic positioning remain important aspects of the role, this position places greater emphasis on business leadership, operational performance, team development, strategic growth, and delivering exceptional results for clients throughout Indiana.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership for AECOM's Indiana Surface Transportation Business Line, establishing strategic priorities aligned with regional and national business objectives.
  • Lead all aspects of transportation project delivery across Indiana, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and at the highest quality standards.
  • Develop and execute long-term business strategies that position the Surface Transportation practice for sustained growth and increased market leadership.
  • Direct the operational performance of the business line, including resource planning, utilization, financial performance, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project managers, technical leaders, and engineering professionals while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • Partner with regional leadership to identify strategic investments, talent needs, and operational improvements that support continued growth.
  • Serve as the senior transportation leader for Indiana, providing executive oversight of major transportation programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and implementation of best practices across project delivery and business operations.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with INDOT, local municipalities, counties, metropolitan planning organizations, and other key transportation stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business line leaders across AECOM to integrate multidisciplinary services and deliver comprehensive transportation solutions.
  • Support strategic pursuits, major proposals, and key client engagements, with a primary emphasis on project delivery excellence and long-term client partnerships rather than day-to-day business development.
  • Monitor market trends, transportation funding initiatives, and industry developments to inform business strategy and future investment opportunities.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 10 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including progressive leadership experience managing transportation engineering projects, multidisciplinary teams, and client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Transportation Engineering.
  • 20+ years of experience leading large transportation organizations, project delivery teams, or statewide transportation programs.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic growth plans for transportation organizations.
  • Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams across roadway, highway, bridge, traffic, and transportation planning disciplines.
  • Strong operational leadership experience with responsibility for project delivery, financial performance, resource management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Established relationships with INDOT and transportation agencies throughout Indiana.
  • Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and develop technical leaders while building a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, innovation, and client service.
  • Executive-level communication, leadership, and organizational skills with the ability to influence strategy across regional and national leadership teams.
  • Experience leading transformational initiatives, organizational change, and continuous improvement programs within a consulting engineering environment.
