Job description

NYCEDC's Asset Management division oversees the strategy and stewardship of a diverse portfolio of conventional and non-traditional assets across all five boroughs. This portfolio includes commercial real estate, transportation and port assets, critical infrastructure, energy assets, public markets, and industrial campuses. As a mission-driven organization, NYCEDC evaluates asset performance not only through economic returns, but also through broader public benefits, including job creation, equitable neighborhood growth, and long-term community value. The division organizes its assets across multiple portfolios to support effective planning, operations, investment, and performance management.

Position Overview: The Energy and Sustainability Analytics Manager (Internally referred to as an Assistant Vice President (AVP)) sits within Asset Management's Energy Team, which oversees the development and execution of NYCEDC's portfolio-wide strategy. The AVP will lead energy management and decarbonization efforts at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT)-an almost 4.5 million sq ft industrial campus managed by NYCEDC. The AVP will work on-site to identify, analyze, and implement energy, water, and process improvements, emphasizing smart systems, digital optimization, and strategic planning. This position bridges technical energy analysis with operational strategy, developing projects that reduce energy use intensity, lower peak demand, improve resiliency, and support long-term compliance with New York City's decarbonization mandates (LL84, LL87, LL97) and State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Energy Management and Analysis

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data-driven energy management plan for BAT, including measurable targets for energy savings, demand reduction, and emissions mitigation, by developing and improving upon current data sources and platforms for informed decision-making.
  • Benchmark building performance, identify trends, and predict savings opportunities through data visualization.
  • Track and report progress toward annual savings goals, targeting minimum 1% reduction in annual energy use.

Project Development and Implementation

  • Identify and deliver advanced energy projects, including demand-response enablement, networked lighting, and digital-twin performance monitoring.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA), utilities, and consultants to align on project implementation and incentive opportunities.
  • Support integration of distributed energy resources, including solar PV, battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging, and thermal energy network infrastructure.

Operational and Behavioral Optimization

  • Develop dashboards and performance reports for building operators and tenants.
  • Train staff on data-driven energy optimization and champion tenant engagement programs to drive behavioral efficiency and awareness.

Reporting and Coordination

  • Maintain detailed documentation of all OsEM activities, energy analyses, and implemented measures per NYSERDA requirements.
  • Provide quarterly and annual reports to NYCEDC and NYSERDA summarizing activities, cost savings, and emissions reductions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, data science, sustainability, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in facility energy management, industrial energy systems, or building performance.
  • Demonstrated success implementing energy conservation measures and managing utility data for large, complex facilities.
  • Proven experience with building automation systems, metering, and energy-data platforms.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with demonstrated ability to engage tenants and present data-driven findings to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in data analysis and quantitative methods; experience with coding and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA).
  • Working knowledge of Con Edison tariffs, NYSERDA incentive programs, and Local Laws 84/87/97 compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or managing distributed energy projects (solar, BESS, EV charging).
  • Proficient in energy benchmarking and modeling tools (Energy Star Portfolio Manager, eQuest, EnergyPlus, TRACE, IES, HAP) and Measurement & Verification protocols.
