Job description

Role Summary / Purpose:

The Assistant Vice President, Integration Architect works in a hands-on architecture environment and leads by example to design, deliver, and continuously improve partner integrations that enable new business deals and product capabilities. This role partners closely with Product and Capability teams, engineering, operations, and external partners to define integration patterns, API contracts, onboarding approaches, and end-to-end solution designs aligned to Synchrony security, reliability, and architectural standards.

A key focus of this role is integration onboarding enablement and operationalization-evolving repeatable processes, establishing metrics and feedback loops, and identifying opportunities to streamline integrations and reduce time-to-onboard while maintaining quality and risk controls.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Architect partner integration solutions(internal-to-external and internal-to-internal), including end-to-end flows, API/interface contracts, error handling, resiliency, observability, and non-functional requirements.

  • Own and evolve the partner integration/onboarding approach, including reusable playbooks, reference architectures, standards, templates, and checklists that improve consistency and speed of delivery.

  • Support new business dealsby participating in discovery, technical due diligence, solution options, integration feasibility assessments, delivery approach, and high-level estimation with partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Establish integration measurement and feedback loops(e.g., onboarding cycle time, defect/incident trends, SLA/SLO attainment, adoption/reuse of standard patterns) to identify bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement.

  • Identify and drive opportunities to streamline integrations, including standardization of API patterns, automation in CI/CD, environment readiness, testing approaches, and documentation quality.

  • Influence many agile development teamsthrough all phases of the Agile development lifecycle (SAFe), ensuring architecture decisions enable delivery and scalability.

  • Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies, especially those that improve integration reliability, speed, and maintainability.

  • Ensure compliancewith architecture, security, and technology standards set by Synchrony Financial.

  • Assist in crafting and maintaining future-state integration architecture strategy, including modernization and migration roadmaps.

  • Participate in Agile scrumsconsisting of cross-functional teams and provide architecture guidance to unblock delivery.

  • Production readiness & operational excellence:participate in incident reports and root cause analysis; analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and guide implementation of durable fixes.

  • Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performanceacross integration services and related platforms.

  • Work with third-party vendors/partnersto integrate their software/services into Synchrony products and support onboarding execution and issue resolution.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experiencewith solution/integration architecture ORin lieu of degree, HS Diploma/GED and 8 years of experiencewith solution/integration architecture.

  • Minimum of 6 years of cross-functional application development experience.

  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST; familiarity with JSON/XMLbased web services.

  • Experience with cloud-native application architecture, microservices ecosystem, and full-stack solution design (PCF experience a plus).

  • Experience with continuous integration environmentsand strong automated testing practices (unit/integration/UI test cases).

  • Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization and partner with global development companies.

  • Experience using Splunk(or equivalent tooling) for production support and troubleshooting.

  • Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience developing and supporting financial/banking applications(preferred).

  • Webhook-based integration knowledge, including subscription/registration models, signature verification, replay protection, idempotency, retries, and event delivery monitoring.

  • Experience designing event-driven architectures (EDA)(publish/subscribe patterns), including event modeling, schema/versioning strategy, ordering guarantees, and eventual consistency considerations.

  • Familiarity with asynchronous integration patternsand messaging concepts (dead-letter queues, backoff/retry policies, at-least-once delivery semantics), and designing for resilience in distributed systems.

Grade/Level: 11

The salary range for this position is 115,000.00 - 200,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
