AVP, North American Programs Division

Location: Preferred location is Farmington, CT but we are open to New jersey, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and Houston

Job Summary:

Responsible for underwriting a portion of the AW Program P&C business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, expense goals, premium growth while simultaneously executing proper underwriting discipline/guidelines, marketing and servicing of existing and potential clients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Core Underwriting Functions
  • Overall management of Program assigned to including but not limited to underwriting referrals, pricing analysis, underwriting audits, PML and aggregation monitoring, data feed review and relationship management of Program Administrator

  • Evaluate and respond to referrals in a timely manner by analyzing coverage, exposures and pricing

  • Work with management in setting and meeting budgeted premiums for assigned Program

  • Work to achieve profitability on assigned Program

Relationship Management & Compliance
  • Liaise with Claims Department on any specific claims activity on individual accounts, which could potentially affect profitability

  • Assure Program Administrator is compliant with all underwriting and administrative guidelines

Marketing & Business Development
  • Marketing - attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings as applicable

  • Assist team in vetting new Program opportunities

Professional Development & Reporting
  • Attend training sessions and conferences when deemed appropriate

  • Assist with special projects as needed under supervision of management

  • Follow treaty and facultative reinsurance protocols as required

  • Stay current with respect to major industry issues and developments

  • Provide specific reports as needed by senior staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College Degree

  • Minimum of 8-12 years underwriting experience

  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi task

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high pressure environment

  • Must be able to think originally, be willing to challenge ideas and be receptive to having their own ideas challenged

  • Willingness to travel


The salary range for this role is between:

$130,000 - $160,000

  • The below annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market. The actual base pay for the position may be above or below he listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but now limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment. Base salary represents one compensation of Allied World comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.Salary is flexible and will be based on the candidate's years of relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
