AVP, Responsible AI & Governance

As AI technologies rapidly transform the insurance industry, responsible governance has never been more critical. The AVP, Responsible AI & Governance will serve as the enterprise's strategic leader for AI governance—shaping frameworks, directing risk assessments, and ensuring safe, ethical, and compliant deployment of AI systems. In this highly visible role, you'll partner with senior leadership across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Data Science, Technology, and Product to oversee the full lifecycle of AI systems. You will help the organization navigate emerging regulations, industry expectations, and ethical considerations while fostering a culture of responsible AI. This is an opportunity to build and mature an enterprise-wide capability foundational to our future.

Enterprise-wide scope and impact - Serves as Lincoln's central authority on AI risk governance, establishing standards, controls, and regulatory compliance expectations across all business lines. Ownership of Lincoln's AI governance framework and its operationalization - including risk tiering, policy standards, control design, and the governance mechanisms that move AI use cases from ideation through ongoing oversight. Influence in navigating and translating evolving state, federal, and industry AI regulations into practical governance requirements. Cross-functional leadership with privacy, legal, security, and AI development teams.

AI Governance Leadership & Strategy Lead the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of Lincoln's AI risk and regulatory governance framework, serving as the enterprise subject matter authority on AI governance standards, controls, and compliance obligations. Own the governance integrity of the AI system lifecycle - ensuring AI use cases are properly inventoried, risk-tiered, vetted, and subject to appropriate ongoing oversight proportionate to their potential for consumer harm. Direct the development and maintenance of AI governance policies, standards, and guidelines that promote fairness, accountability, and transparency, ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory requirements.

AI Risk Assessment & Compliance Conduct and oversee AI risk assessments and maintain a comprehensive inventory of AI systems. Identify mitigation strategies and present to senior leadership. Ensure alignment with enterprise risk management frameworks. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Ethics, and Risk teams.

Regulatory Response & External Engagement Lead regulatory examinations, inquiries, and AI-related requests. Translate emerging regulations into actionable changes. Cross-Functional Partnership & Change Management Collaborate with internal AI build teams across the AI development lifecycle, including data scientists and AI/ML engineers. Partner with AI System Owners and other key stakeholders across every line of business to responsibly develop and manage Lincoln's use of AI. Promote responsible, ethical, and compliant AI use.

Thought Leadership & SME Expertise Serve as enterprise AI governance expert. Advise senior leadership on industry trends. Identify and implement governance process improvements.

Must-Haves Bachelor's degree or 4 additional years of experience. 10+ years supporting technology systems management. 5+ years developing risk or governance frameworks. Strong communication skills and ability to influence senior leadership. Experience interpreting regulatory frameworks. Nice-to-Haves Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated fields. Familiarity with NAIC, NIST AI RMF, LIMRA/LOMA AIRE, state specific AI regulations. Understanding of data science or AI model development.

The pay range for this position is $127,500 - $232,300 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
