Job description

Work remote. Own the rebuild. Step into a clear path to CTO.Head of Engineering

Location/Type: United States Remote

Pay: $200,000 to $215,000 base + Bonus

Schedule: Full-time

You'll lead engineering at a fast-growing aviation software organization in a high-impact rebuild phase.

This is not a placeholder exec role.

You'll own the team, tighten execution, speed up releases, and help modernize a legacy platform used in security-heavy, compliance-driven environments.

You'll lead from the front. Think 75% leadership, 25% hands-on.

What you'll do
  • Lead engineering through a major platform rebuild
  • Improve release speed and delivery consistency
  • Coach engineers and raise accountability across the team
  • Unblock tough technical issues and guide architecture decisions
  • Partner with product on roadmap, scope, and tradeoffs
  • Fix communication gaps across engineering and leadership
  • Reduce bottlenecks in QA, deployment, and production signoff
Must-haves
  • 8+ years in software engineering leadership
  • Strong B2B SaaS leadership background
  • Player-coach style; still close to code and systems
  • Experience modernizing legacy platforms
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management
  • U.S. citizenship required
Nice to have
  • Experience in regulated or security-sensitive software
  • Background in aviation, compliance, identity, or training platforms
  • Experience scaling teams through org change
  • Exposure to AI developer tools and workflow automation
Perks & pay
  • Pay: $200,000 to $215,000 base + Annual Bonus
  • Remote work across the U.S.
  • Real path to broader CTO-level scope
  • High-ownership role with visible executive impact
Schedule & setup
  • Full-time remote role
  • U.S.-based team collaboration
  • Hands-on leadership; not a pure strategy seat
  • Security-sensitive environment with high standards
Impact & growth

Your work will reduce release friction, improve engineering trust, and help turn a messy system into a scalable platform.

You'll have real influence from day one.

This role fits someone who likes pace, ownership, and fixing what others avoid.

At Urrly, fairness matters. We use AI to review every application against the same clear requirements for the role. This means every candidate is evaluated on job-related factors like skills, certifications, and experience-not on personal attributes such as gender, race, age, or background. Our goal is to create a more objective, consistent, and equal opportunity hiring process for all applicants.

Apply Today to lead a full engineering rebuild from anywhere in the U.S. and step into real CTO-track ownership.
