Job description

Our employee-owned and multi-disciplined team of engineering, design, and planning professionals is looking for a Commercial Aviation Assistant Group Manager with engaging leadership skills, a demonstrated ability to cultivate and enhance relationships with prospective and current clients, and an unwavering passion for understanding and delivering in accordance with the needs of the greater aviation community.

As the Commercial Aviation Assistant Group Manager, a key responsibility will be to coach, mentor, and develop a talented group of graduate engineer and design professionals. With insight into our strategic and annual business plan, you will engage your team members to outline development plans and establish obtainable goals that further their professional growth and help the greater TKDA team make progress toward achieving business performance objectives. ย 

In collaboration with other managers from the Aviation team, you will assign team members to project assignments, delegate applicable tasks, review work in accordance with applicable standards, and oversee deliverable progress in relation to submittal schedules. ย 

You will frequently assume project management responsibilities for occasional multi-discipline projects, including the evaluation of project scope, fee estimates, scheduling / deliverable requirements and management of project budgets and QA/QC processes. From a market development perspective, you will assist in developing proposals, cultivating relations with current and prospective clients, facilitating project interviews, and attending conferences.

For this opportunity we are seeking a qualified professional who resides within regular commuting distance of our MKE / Milwaukee, WI location. The selected candidate will be provided with a flexible hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote) work arrangement.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree from an accredited college/university in civil engineering with transportation and/or aviation emphasis. ย ย 
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer.
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience designing large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience leading and/or coaching a team of transportation design professionals with varying competencies, knowledge, qualifications, and professional experience. ย 
  • Previous experience or aspirations to manage technical and financial aspects of multi-disciplined projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D and/or ArcGIS.
  • Strong working knowledge of WisDOT and FAA design standards and deliverable requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills when developing proposals, preparing technical reports and documentation, conducting project interviews, representing TKDA in client meetings, leading team meetings, and coaching / mentoring team members.
  • Possession of a valid driverโ€™s license with a driving record that meets company and client requirements.
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally (up to 20%) as needed based on project assignments.
  • Ability to mentor staff members in design and project management.ย 
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Prior experience responding to proposal requests or facilitating proposal development efforts.
  • Prior experience contributing to business or market development plans.
  • Prior experience or aspirations to cultivate and enhance relations with stakeholders of current and prospective clients.
  • Extensive aviation design and construction experience.
  • Project management experience including use of Microsoft Project.
  • Proficient in working with Deltek Vantagepoint.
