Job Description:Purpose:

Under direct supervision, this position provides advanced housekeeping, security, and facilities services throughout Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and the AUS campus.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

• Provides facility maintenance, security, emergency services, general and detailed cleaning and disinfecting services using heavy and specialized equipment, and moving and arranging services for airport terminals and campus.

• Operates a variety of cleaning equipment or machinery such as high lifts, scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, pressure washers, and power washers; maintains knowledge in operating and cleaning equipment.

• Works in conjunction with airport personnel to ensure security and safety for airport facilities; ensures facility lockdown to include closets, offices, entrance and exit doors; monitors for security breaches, unattended packages, and suspicious persons and activities, etc.; and reports any unsafe and suspicious activity to airport personnel.

• Evacuates customers and isolates airport facilities when emergencies arise such as security breaches, bad weather, and fire emergencies.

• Provides customer service to passengers, tenants, contractors, employees, and management upon request by providing solicited and unsolicited information.

• Operates City vehicles for transporting propane, material, etc. on airport ramps.

• Performs administrative duties and responsibilities to include completing forms, logs, and personal timesheets.

• Utilizes biohazard clean-up methods and monitors and replaces biohazard syringe boxes.

• Performs cash handling duties.

• Responds to calls for lost and found items.

• Knowledge of janitorial processes and procedures.

• Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and mandates and City, departmental, State, and Local rules and regulations.

• Knowledge of FAA and TSA Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) regulations and requirements.

• Knowledge of Airline Baggage Hygiene procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience related to janitorial services, including one (1) year of experience which was in operating of janitorial heavy equipment and machinery.

• Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Valid Texas Class C Driver License within ninety (90) days of hire.

Notes to Candidate:

The Facility Services division is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the airport terminal and surrounding office facilities, covering more than one million square feet. Custodial staff work 24/7 to ensure all AUS campus buildings are clean, safe, and welcoming for travelers, employees, and visitors.

The Airport Facility Specialist role supports daily airport operations by performing custodial and facility-related tasks, including cleaning, sanitizing, and operating specialized equipment such as floor machines, carpet extractors, steam cleaners, scissor lifts, KAIVAC systems, floor stripping, and waxing and pressure washers. Duties also include attending restrooms, gates, breakrooms, hallways, elevators, windows and offices, as well as security observation and reporting, assisting with emergency procedures and evacuations, and completing required documentation.

Employees must follow standard custodial practices and comply with FAA and TSA requirements. The position requires effective communication in English, basic computer and radio operation skills, and availability to work in a continuous 24/7 operational environment, including weekends, holidays, emergencies, and events (SXSW, ACL, Formula 1, BAD WEATHER, Motorcycle Race, etc.). Training is provided, and certifications are not required.

Overall, this role is essential to maintaining airport facility standards and supporting a safe, clean, and positive passenger experience.

Physical Requirements:
This is a physically demanding position that will require that you be able to perform the following essential job functions without reasonable accommodations:

• Ability to carry, lift, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.

• Ability to frequently stand and walk, occasional sitting and lying, occasional climbing of stairs and ladders, repetitive motions and vibration.

• Ability to frequently reach/stretch overhead, crawling, and twisting.

• Ability to consistently kneel, stoop/bend, and repetitive hand/foot movement.

• Ability to use consistent hand and finger dexterity, and grasping or squeezing for most of the workday.

• Ability to wear the required personal protective equipment.

• Ability to work in environments with exposure to vibrations, noise, mechanical and chemical hazards, fume and odor hazards, toxic waste and material hazards.

• Ability to work with possible contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials.

The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment physical exam to be considered for this position, which includes a Functional (FC) strength/agility test.

A skills assessment will be required for this position.

Salary Range:
$23.13 - $26.26

Work Hours:
Tuesday - Saturday OR

Sunday - Thursday

10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Hours may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.

Core schedule and hours will be provided at the time of job offer.

Overtime:
Overtime may be required with or without notice.

Shift Incentive:
Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends

Driver's Requirement:

This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on theAOA.

This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet theCity of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite.
