Job description

Position Title: Guest Teacher
Reports to: Talent and Engagement Office
Employment Status: Part-time Seasonal
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Walker is now accepting applications for guest teachers, formerly know as substitute teachers, who will commit for the full school year in our Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper School divisions as well as our Extended Day Program (EDP).
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Candidates must be able to instruct students and facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular teacher. Guest teachers must authorize a background screening. Applicants for the Primary School and Primary School EDP will complete a state background screening that includes fingerprinting.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
  • Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains appropriate student-teacher boundaries.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as an example to students.
  • Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by the Division Head.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree, although a Master's Degree is preferred.
