Job description

POSITION: Substitute Teacher
LOCATIONS: All school buildings in the Newton Community School District

  • Newton Community School District is looking for Substitute Teachers!
  • Full day or half day shifts available.
  • We use an online system where you can pick the jobs to match your availability.


2026-2027 Substitute Teacher Pay Rates: 

  • Base Rate: Hourly: $20
  • 8 Hour Day: $160
  • 4 hour Day: $80
  • Long Term Rate begins on Day 21 of a consecutive day assignment for the same classroom - $25.98/hour. (This requires a Teacher or Substitute License.)

Requirements: Current Iowa licensure (Teacher/Substitute License/Substitute Authorization) required.  https://boee.iowa.gov/

The following additional requirements are needed to complete the application:

  • Copy of your Iowa Teaching License
  • Copy of Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Certificate
  • Transcripts from University/College

Position Information: Substitute employees will be notified of available substitute assignments on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent staff. Hours and the frequency of assignments will vary depending on district staffing needs, employee absences, and the substitute's availability.
