Job description

Position Purpose:
The Audio Visual Engineer I serves as an entry-level engineering support role within the GTN Media Engineering Team. This position assists in the upkeep, repair, installation, and configuration of media systems used throughout studios, classrooms, the auditorium, and event spaces. The role provides foundational support in maintaining signal integrity, cabling, rack infrastructure, and technical operations under the supervision of senior engineers. Audio Visual Engineers work alongside other technical teams (lighting, audio, livestream, technicians) to support the technical infrastructure of the ministry.
Essential Duties:
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AV and broadcast systems.
  • Support cable management, labeling, documentation, and routing for new installs or system upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot and support the operation of LED volumes, digital sound consoles, video routers, digital signage, and video switching systems.
  • Support and maintain routing of signal paths throughout all technical infrastructure.
  • Read and follow system diagrams and signal flow documentation.
  • Assist with documentation and technical inventory management.
  • Support daily tech needs in classrooms, studios, and auditoriums.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on media systems, patch bays, and server racks.
  • Ensure all aspects of the live-streaming equipment meet technical standards and are up to date.
  • Capable of assisting in processing, uploading, and following established archiving and formatting guidelines for video segments.
  • Operate technical positions during productions, studio filming's or events when necessary.
  • Participate & Contribute to the planning meetings for all future Live events and pre- and post-production events.
  • Respond to system-related support needs in classrooms, studios, and live venues.
  • Collaborate with Technical Directors, AV Technicians, and other engineering team members as necessary.
  • Participate in team training and skill development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical understanding of AV signal flow, broadcast systems, IP streaming, and infrastructure design.
  • Proven experience with broadcast cameras, switchers, audio consoles, routing systems, DSPs, and lighting networks.
  • Familiarity with Dante, NDI, SDI, DMX, and AV-over-IP protocols.
  • Experience with AV rack builds, structured wiring, cable termination, and signal testing tools.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting under pressure and providing immediate and long-term solutions.
  • Capable of generating and interpreting rack layouts, wiring schematics, and patch bay diagrams.
  • Experience with Mac and PC platforms. Adobe Creative Cloud and DaVinci Resolve experience is a plus.
  • Must be highly organized, dependable, and attentive to detail.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and working on ladders or elevated platforms.

Requirements:
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must sign the Statement of Faith.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Charis Bible College student or graduate is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge or coursework in electronics and AV systems.
  • Must pass all required checks.

Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in a studio, film, live event, or church production setting preferred.
  • Ministry, church, or worship production experience is highly valued.
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience.
