This role is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning professional audio, video, lighting, and control systems for commercial customers throughout the United States. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AV systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to travel extensively while supporting high-profile customer installations.

Job Description: Commercial Audio/Visual Installation Technician

This job description outlines three tiers within the Commercial Audio/Visual (AV) Installation Technician career path: Technician, Lead Technician, and Foreman. Each tier reflects increasing responsibility, leadership, and experience within commercial AV installation environments.

Position Summary

Commercial AV Installation Technicians are responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and support of audio/visual systems in commercial environments. Technicians work as part of a field team to ensure systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project documentation and quality standards.

Technician (Entry-Level)

Experience Band: 0-2 years of commercial AV, low-voltage, or related technical experience

  • Perform installation of AV equipment including displays, speakers, racks, and peripherals
  • Pull, terminate, and label low-voltage cabling (audio, video, control, network)
  • Assist with rack builds and equipment mounting
  • Follow drawings, scopes of work, and direction from Lead Technicians or Foremen
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites
  • Adhere to safety standards and company policies
  • Support testing and basic troubleshooting under supervision

Lead Technician (Mid-Level)

Experience Band: 3-6 years of commercial AV installation experience

  • Lead daily installation activities for assigned areas or systems
  • Interpret drawings, signal flow diagrams, and scopes of work
  • Coordinate work tasks for Technicians to meet schedule requirements
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and system verification
  • Oversee rack fabrication, cable management, and equipment labeling
  • Communicate progress, issues, and material needs to the Foreman or Field Project Manager
  • Ensure installation quality meets company and industry standards
  • Mentor and train junior technicians
  • CTS certification preferred

Foreman (Senior / Field Leadership)

Experience Band: 7+ years of commercial AV installation experience, including leadership roles

  • Manage day-to-day field operations for assigned projects or project phases
  • Supervise Lead Technicians and Technicians onsite
  • Coordinate labor activities to meet project schedules and milestones
  • Ensure materials, tools, and documentation are available onsite
  • Enforce safety practices and quality control standards
  • Act as the primary onsite point of contact for field coordination
  • Report daily progress, labor utilization, and issues to the Field Project Manager
  • Support commissioning activities and system turnover
  • CTS or CTS-I certification strongly preferred

Work Environment

This position requires work on active construction sites and may involve extended periods of standing, lifting, ladder use, and coordination with other trades. Travel between job sites may be required depending on project needs.

Travel Requirements
