Their responsibilities include assessing client needs, specifying equipment, creating system diagrams, and overseeing installation and integration of technologies like projectors, sound systems, and video conferencing tools. AV designers ensure seamless interaction between audio, video, and control systems to deliver high-quality user experiences. They often collaborate with architects, IT specialists, and end-users to tailor solutions to specific requirements.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an AV designer?

This is an entry-level, hands-on field role ideal for someone mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to build a career in the low-voltage/AV integration trade. You'll work alongside Lead Technicians and Project Managers, following the project's approved scope of work from installation through client handoff.
What You'll Do
  • Install AV, network, surveillance, control, and lighting equipment per project proposals and approved scope of work
  • Run and terminate low-voltage cabling (speaker wire, Cat6, coax) neatly and to code
  • Mount and wire equipment racks, TVs, speakers, cameras, access points, and touchscreens
  • Log daily work in D-Tools Cloud: clock in/out of projects, complete checklist items, and post progress photos and comments to the project Activity feed
  • Stage and organize daily materials designated by the Project Manager
  • Support the Lead Technician during commissioning and system stress-testing
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including field injury response protocols
  • Communicate professionally with clients and team members on-site
What We're Looking For
  • 0-2 years of experience in AV/low-voltage installation (training provided; prior experience a plus)
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools, working on ladders, and in attics/crawlspaces
  • Basic understanding of low-voltage wiring, or willingness to learn quickly
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license (clean driving record required)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work throughout the day
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in clean, professional workmanship
  • Team player with good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Comfortable using a smartphone/tablet for task management (D-Tools Cloud)
Nice to Have
  • Manufacturer training or certifications (Crestron, Control4, Lutron, etc.)
  • Experience with home networking (routers, switches, access points)
  • OSHA 10 certification
What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience
  • On-the-job training and manufacturer certification opportunities
  • Growth path to Lead Technician and beyond
  • 401k, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Company vehicle/travel to job sites (as applicable)
