What is automotive interior design?

Automotive interior design is the process of creating and developing the inside spaces of vehicles, including the layout, materials, colors, textures, and features that enhance comfort, safety, and user experience. Designers focus on elements such as seats, dashboards, instrument panels, controls, and infotainment systems to ensure functionality and aesthetics. This field combines creativity with technical expertise to meet both manufacturer requirements and customer preferences while adhering to safety and ergonomic standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an automotive interior designer?

To thrive as an Automotive Interior Designer, you need strong skills in industrial design, ergonomics, material selection, and a relevant degree in design or engineering. Proficiency with CAD software (such as CATIA or Autodesk Alias), 3D modeling tools, and knowledge of manufacturing processes are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective collaboration set exceptional designers apart in this field. These skills are crucial for delivering innovative, safe, and market-competitive vehicle interiors that meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by automotive interior designers when balancing aesthetics and functionality?

Automotive interior designers often face the challenge of creating interiors that are visually appealing while also meeting strict safety, ergonomic, and manufacturing requirements. Balancing innovative designs with material limitations, cost constraints, and compliance with industry standards can be difficult. Additionally, designers must collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to ensure that their concepts are feasible for production and enhance the overall user experience. Effective communication and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering successful interior solutions.

Job description

We’re Hiring — In-Home Sales Consultant – Custom Closets & Garage

Precision Closets & Garage | American Fork, UT
Full-Time | Commission-Based | Company-Provided Leads

Precision Closets & Garage is growing, and we’re looking for a motivated In-Home Sales Consultant to join our team serving Utah County, Salt Lake County, and surrounding areas.

This is a sales position first, with design as part of the sales process.

You’ll meet with homeowners who have expressed interest in custom closets, garages, pantries, offices, and other storage solutions. Your job is to understand their needs, design the right solution, present the proposal, and close the sale.

You don’t need closet or interior design experience. We can teach you our products, design software, and systems. We’re looking for someone who is confident with people, coachable, motivated by results, and comfortable asking for the business.

What We Provide

  • 6–10 qualified company-provided leads per month
  • Opportunity for additional leads based on performance
  • Pre-set appointments with interested homeowners
  • No traditional cold calling
  • Sales, product, and design software training
  • Flexible, appointment-based schedule
  • Support from our sales, operations, and installation teams
  • Strong commission-based earning potential

What You’ll Do

  • Meet with homeowners for in-home consultations
  • Build rapport and identify their needs, priorities, and budget
  • Measure spaces accurately
  • Design custom closet and storage solutions using our software
  • Present proposals and communicate value
  • Ask for the sale and close projects
  • Follow up consistently on open opportunities
  • Manage your sales pipeline
  • Coordinate with our team after the project is sold

Who We’re Looking For

  • Sales-driven, competitive, and goal-oriented
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Confident meeting homeowners face-to-face
  • Comfortable discussing budgets and asking for purchasing decisions
  • Coachable and willing to follow a sales process
  • Self-motivated, organized, and dependable
  • Comfortable learning design software and measuring spaces
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle

Sales experience is preferred, but closet/design experience is not required.

Experience in in-home sales, home improvement, furniture, flooring, cabinetry, automotive, real estate, or other commission-based sales can be a great fit.

We’d rather hire a great salesperson who’s willing to learn design than a great designer who doesn’t enjoy selling.

Compensation

This is a commission-based position with strong earning potential. Qualified appointments are provided, with opportunities for additional lead volume based on performance and closing success.
