Job Title: Full-Time Virginia State Car Inspector
Location: Bernies Automotive Repair Inc.  2024 Campostella Rd Chesapeake, VA 23324
Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM), with alternate weekends

Job Description:

We are looking for a qualified Virginia State Inspector to join our team in ensuring vehicles meet all the state’s safety and emissions standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive inspection and a strong understanding of Virginia state inspection regulations. This full-time position provides a consistent work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with alternate weekend shifts. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Vehicle Inspections: Conduct comprehensive state inspections on cars, trucks, and other vehicles to ensure compliance with Virginia's safety and emissions standards.

  • Safety Checks: Inspect essential components such as brakes, tires, lights, steering, suspension, and exhaust systems to determine if they meet state standards.

  • Emissions Testing: Perform emissions testing on vehicles and ensure compliance with Virginia's environmental regulations.

  • Inspection Documentation: Complete detailed inspection reports for each vehicle, including any failed components, necessary repairs, and overall condition.

  • Certification and Stamping: Certify vehicles as "passed" or "failed" according to state standards and issue inspection stickers.

  • Customer Communication: Communicate inspection results to vehicle owners, explain the issues, and provide recommendations for repairs if necessary.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date on Virginia State laws and regulations regarding car inspections, including any updates or changes to emission standards and safety checks.

  • Maintain Inspection Equipment: Ensure that all inspection equipment is properly calibrated, well-maintained, and compliant with state regulations.

  • Customer Service: Provide friendly, professional customer service while helping vehicle owners understand the importance of maintaining their vehicles in compliance with state regulations.

  • Alternate Weekend Work: Work during alternate weekends as needed to accommodate customer demand.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional automotive training or certifications are a plus.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in automotive inspection, mechanic work, or a related field.

  • Certifications: Valid Virginia State Inspector License (Safety and Emissions).

  • Skills: Knowledge of Virginia's vehicle inspection standards, strong diagnostic skills, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform inspections in various conditions (inside and outside), lifting and working on vehicles as necessary.

  • Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
