Job description

HHM Talent is assisting a client search for an Automotive Assistant Controller in Columbia, SC. 


Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Automotive Assistant Controller to support accounting operations for two dealership rooftops in the Columbia, SC market. This position will work closely with the Controller and dealership leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close, and strong internal controls across both locations.

The ideal candidate will have dealership accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced automotive environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily accounting operations for two dealership rooftops
  • Support month-end close and financial statement preparation
  • Review schedules, reconciliations, and accounting entries for accuracy
  • Assist with bank reconciliations, floorplan reconciliations, and inventory schedules
  • Oversee or support AP, AR, billing, title work, deals, and related accounting functions
  • Help maintain compliance with manufacturer, lender, and internal accounting requirements
  • Work closely with department managers to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies
  • Support the Controller with reporting, process improvement, and internal controls
  • Assist with audits, year-end reporting, and special projects as needed
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting office staff

Qualifications

  • Automotive dealership accounting experience required
  • Prior experience as an Assistant Controller, Office Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar dealership accounting role preferred
  • Strong understanding of dealership accounting processes, schedules, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Experience with CDK DMS systems highly preferred
  • Ability to manage deadlines across multiple rooftops

Compensation

  • Salary of $70,000–$80,000, depending on experience
