Job description


Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)


We are seeking a strategic and proven leader to serve as our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The desired candidate has a background in the construction industry and is experienced in working across several related businesses, each with multiple service divisions. The CFO will develop financial plans and strategies, establish long-range goals and implement policies to support growth and maintain fiscal stability. This is an in-person role located in our Westmont, Illinois office.


Ideal Candidate Profile:


The successful candidate will be a financial strategist with operational sensibility, possessing sharp business acumen, and a hands-on approach to financial management in the construction sector. They will thrive in a dynamic environment, be an effective communicator, balance strategic oversight with attention to detail, all while building trust across all levels of the organization.


Compensation:

  • $180k - $250k
  • Sign-on bonus
  • STI based on year-end NP actual vs. budget performance
  • Potential for annual individual performance bonus


Role Summary:

The CFO will be directly responsible for overseeing the financial operations of three separate, related entities providing various construction services in the Midwest region with combined revenues of $75m, backlog of $100m+, 24 month projected backlog of $150m, and plans for geographic expansion. The CFO will manage the Controller who directly supervises all accounting staff: Accounting Manager, Payroll Specialist, Accounts Payable Administrator, Project Accountant, and Purchasing Manager.


Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (required).
  • CPA or MBA strongly preferred.


Experience

  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • At least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance role in the construction industry or a project-based business environment.
  • Proven track record managing project-level financials, job costing, and construction-specific P&L structures.


Technical Proficiency

  • Expertise in construction accounting systems (e.g., Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Procore financials, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel modeling and financial analysis skills.
  • High level of proficiency in job costing, WIP schedules, retainage accounting, and change order management.
