Automation Tooling Engineer
JOB SUMMARY:
Development and execution of automation processes and tooling based on customer requirments, quality systems , financial investment and labor plans. Plan the implementation of automation processes, selection of equipment to be purchased, and timing estimates. Resolve issues with quality plans, product design, manufacturability, or build process steps. Participate in adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency. Adopt and read across automation improvements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead implementation of specifications and improvement to tooling and equipment, including concept, design, build, and launch activities with team.
  • Lead tool modifications and designs for engineering changes.
  • Support commercial activities regarding process concept, tooling/equipment costing, and customer technical reviews with team, including build and maintenance leaders.
  • Track, monitor, and report assigned tooling build programs. Use of Smart Sheet, Project Timing Plan, and ME/LE time lines to track.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of program launch/project team with respect to all tooling and equipment.
  • Provide leadership to local team members with respect to machine design, machine build and controls systems.
  • Develop tooling engineering documentation with mechanical and controls design to support machine processes.
  • Review and approve tool layouts, tool drawings with Tooling and Mechanical Design managers, as required.
  • Develop tool change procedures, tool setup procedures and visual aids for operators.
  • Lead resolution of tooling performance issues.
  • Make recommendations for repairs on new tooling with team including Build Leaders.
  • Support development of strategic suppliers to meet Android tooling standards.
  • Gather all relevant product information, production rates and assembly requirements from internal manufacturing engineering.
  • Create operational documentation including repair, rework and changeover SWSs.
  • Prepare equipment operators by training Team Leader.
  • Develop and drive automation cell metrics for execution excellence.
  • Responsible for automation cell to achieves planned cycle time.
  • Responsible for automation cell achieving cycle time 98% of cycles.
  • Responsible for equipment certification and run-off.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineer to drive Quality (PFMEA, Reverse PFMEA, Control Plan, Error-proofing plan) back into the design of the assembly processes and equipment and to ensure a robust Manufacturing System is delivered to the Plant that meets quality and engineering standards.
  • Promote health and safety in all phases of the project.
  • Protect organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
  • Develop, monitor, and achieve the operation's annual goals through its ongoing continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to operations and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and have a positive attitude.
  • Effectively interact with, lead and develop people.
  • Teach, lead and continuously improve all areas of the business.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in assembly and/ or manufacturing and 2+ years of experience with APQP system
  • Supervisory experience in the manufacturing field is preferred

TRAVEL:
    • Travel Required: Minimal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes, Android operations (sequencing, sub-assembly, shipping and receiving, and tooling).
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, equipment, automation, engineering specifications, and cost reduction in automotive assembly applications.
  • High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Strong decision-making skills with ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
  • Proficient with GD&T process diagrams, PFMEA, and Control Plans
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all team members - manufacturing, engineering, executive leadership, etc.
  • Working knowledge of IATF quality system.
  • High level computer skills to include Windows applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD a plus
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
