Job Title: Automation Technician
Location: Libertyville, IL

Job Summary:
The Automation Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, programming, maintaining, and optimizing automation systems used in injection molding operations. The role involves supporting robotic systems, PLCs, HMIs, motion control equipment, and automation processes while ensuring maximum equipment uptime, product quality, and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with molding automation systems, including robots, conveyors, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Program, modify, and optimize molding robots (Fanuc, Sepro, Yushin, Wittmann, or similar) for part handling, degating, and packaging.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, servo motors, VFDs, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Support mold trials, new product launches, and automation setup for production.
  • Improve automation processes, cycle times, and manufacturing efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain robot program backups, maintenance records, and equipment documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to resolve recurring automation issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards, including ISO, FDA, and GMP where applicable.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in injection molding automation or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with robot programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial sensors, servo motors, motion control systems, VFDs, and pneumatic/hydraulic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience with EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) design and maintenance.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification or Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Automation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
