Automation In Finance information

Are automation in finance jobs being automated?

Automation in finance jobs, including roles like financial analysts and accountants, is increasingly common as technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence (AI) handle repetitive tasks. While automation streamlines processes, many finance roles still require human judgment, strategic thinking, and oversight, making complete automation unlikely in the near term.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in automation in finance?

To thrive in Automation in Finance, you need a solid grounding in finance principles, data analysis, and programming skills, often supported by degrees in finance, accounting, or computer science. Familiarity with automation tools like RPA (Robotic Process Automation), Python, Excel macros, and ERP systems is typically required, along with certifications such as UiPath or Blue Prism. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills that help professionals adapt and collaborate across departments. These skills and qualities are crucial for streamlining processes, reducing errors, and driving efficiency in financial operations.

What is automation in finance?

Automation in finance refers to the use of technology, such as software, artificial intelligence, and robotics, to perform financial processes and tasks with minimal human intervention. Common applications include automating data entry, invoice processing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and even some decision-making functions. This helps organizations improve efficiency, reduce errors, lower operational costs, and enable finance professionals to focus on more strategic activities. Automation is increasingly being adopted in both large corporations and small businesses to streamline their financial operations.

How does an automation in finance specialist typically collaborate with other departments to implement new financial technologies?

An Automation in Finance specialist works closely with teams such as IT, accounting, and operations to identify manual processes that can be automated. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, mapping current workflows, and testing new solutions to ensure seamless integration across platforms. Regular meetings and cross-functional project teams are common, enabling specialists to address concerns, provide training, and ensure compliance. This collaborative approach helps drive successful adoption of automation tools and optimizes financial processes organization-wide.

Job description

Lev is transforming the $700B commercial real estate financing space. We have built a digital platform that matches borrowers and brokers with the bestโ€‘fit lenders for their deals, and uses AI to fully automate timeโ€‘consuming financing workflows.

We are the first people to be tackling this problem at scale. Thatโ€™s why top-tier VCs and a whoโ€™s who of financial companies have invested more than $100M to help us grab this massive opportunity.

Our company and products are on the bleeding edge of practical AI and agents to serve customers, and our company itself is deeply AIโ€‘powered. Our team is an incredible mix of customerโ€‘ and solutionโ€‘oriented builders and sellers, working together to create a generational company to bring an industry into the digital age.

About the role

We are seeking a handsโ€‘on, AIโ€‘fluent Finance & Operations Manager who will report directly to the CEO and own a broad remit including budgeting, financial modeling, performance tracking, vendor management and oversight of external bookkeepers. The right candidate will be extremely AIโ€‘forward and will use tools like Runway to automate and enhance workflows and drive operational efficiency.

What you'll do
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop, maintain, and refine annual and quarterly budgets, financial forecasts and rolling models to support strategic decisionโ€‘making.
  • Monitor ongoing performance against those models: key drivers, variances, rootโ€‘cause analysis, and proactive recommendations for courseโ€‘correction.
  • Prepare and present regular financial dashboards, KPIs and management reports in an understandable, actionable way.
  • Oversee our external bookkeepers: ensure timely and accurate transaction capture, reconciliations, general ledger integrity, accounts payable/receivable oversight, and monthโ€‘end close routines.
  • Manage software/SaaS/vendor contracts: maintain the inventory of software tools, negotiate and manage renewals, optimize vendor spend, ensure contract compliance, and work to reduce redundancy and cost leakage.
  • Lead process design and automation in finance & operations: identify opportunities for AI or workflow automation to streamline budgeting, forecasting, vendor management, contract approvals, and operational workflows.
  • Act as a bridge between finance/ops and other teams to ensure alignment of financial and operational processes, drive costโ€‘effectiveness, and embed operational discipline.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, risk management, compliance frameworks and ensure data integrity across financial systems.
  • Manage adโ€‘hoc strategic projects (e.g., system upgrades, tool implementations, scaling operations, potential M&A or funding support) as assigned by the CEO.
The must haves
  • 5+ years of experience in finance, operations or FP&A roles in highโ€‘growth SaaS, technology or startup environments.
  • Strong handsโ€‘on experience with budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and variance analysis.
  • Experience managing or coordinating bookkeeping functions, monthโ€‘end close, AP/AR, software/vendor contract management.
  • Deep comfort with spreadsheets and financial modeling.
  • Proven track record using AI to drive operational efficiency.
  • Strong analytical mindset, dataโ€‘orientation and ability to translate numbers into insights.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and crossโ€‘functional collaboration skills.
  • High level of organization, ability to manage multiple priorities and drive initiatives endโ€‘toโ€‘end.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field (MBA or CPA a plus).
The nitty gritty
  • This is an officeโ€‘based role in NYC (4 days in office)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Excellent health insurance for you and your dependents
  • Generous stock incentive plan
  • Daily DoorDash credit for lunch and plenty of inโ€‘office snacks
  • Subsidized access to Gympass for health and wellness
