Automation In Finance information

Are automation in finance jobs being automated?

Automation in finance jobs, including roles like financial analysts and accountants, is increasingly common as technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence (AI) handle repetitive tasks. While automation streamlines processes, many finance roles still require human judgment, strategic thinking, and oversight, making complete automation unlikely in the near term.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in automation in finance?

To thrive in Automation in Finance, you need a solid grounding in finance principles, data analysis, and programming skills, often supported by degrees in finance, accounting, or computer science. Familiarity with automation tools like RPA (Robotic Process Automation), Python, Excel macros, and ERP systems is typically required, along with certifications such as UiPath or Blue Prism. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills that help professionals adapt and collaborate across departments. These skills and qualities are crucial for streamlining processes, reducing errors, and driving efficiency in financial operations.

What is automation in finance?

Automation in finance refers to the use of technology, such as software, artificial intelligence, and robotics, to perform financial processes and tasks with minimal human intervention. Common applications include automating data entry, invoice processing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and even some decision-making functions. This helps organizations improve efficiency, reduce errors, lower operational costs, and enable finance professionals to focus on more strategic activities. Automation is increasingly being adopted in both large corporations and small businesses to streamline their financial operations.

How does an automation in finance specialist typically collaborate with other departments to implement new financial technologies?

An Automation in Finance specialist works closely with teams such as IT, accounting, and operations to identify manual processes that can be automated. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, mapping current workflows, and testing new solutions to ensure seamless integration across platforms. Regular meetings and cross-functional project teams are common, enabling specialists to address concerns, provide training, and ensure compliance. This collaborative approach helps drive successful adoption of automation tools and optimizes financial processes organization-wide.

Job description

We are looking for a Finance Transformation Manager to lead a high-impact review and redesign of finance and accounting operations in Las Vegas, Nevada. This contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can connect financial process expertise with business needs and technology delivery in a complex, multi-entity environment. The role will focus on evaluating current workflows, shaping a scalable future-state model, and guiding automation and process improvement efforts that strengthen visibility, control, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluate finance and accounting activities across multiple business units to understand how work is performed today and where inconsistencies exist.
• Document end-to-end workflows spanning close, reporting, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, approvals, and related finance operations.
• Analyze existing processes to uncover bottlenecks, control weaknesses, duplicate effort, data quality concerns, and opportunities to standardize execution.
• Partner with finance leaders and operational stakeholders to gather business objectives, define functional needs, and align recommendations with practical constraints.
• Create future-state process designs that improve accuracy, transparency, speed, governance, and scalability across the finance organization.
• Convert accounting and finance needs into clear business requirements and functional specifications for automation, AI, and technical delivery teams.
• Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, reporting, and decision support through automation, intelligent tools, and improved data usage.
• Build an implementation roadmap that outlines priorities, sequencing, dependencies, effort estimates, risks, and anticipated business value.
• Support delivery activities by reviewing proposed solutions, validating requirements, participating in testing, and encouraging business adoption throughout execution.
• Serve as the primary liaison between finance stakeholders and technical teams to ensure solutions remain aligned with operational goals.• Demonstrated experience improving finance and accounting operations within complex, multi-entity, or multi-business environments.
• Strong knowledge of core financial processes, including month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Background in finance transformation, business process design, process re-engineering, and gap analysis.
• Ability to translate business needs into structured documentation such as workflow maps, requirements documents, and implementation plans.
• Experience collaborating with senior finance leadership, including Controllers, VP Finance, CFOs, accounting teams, and business partners.
• Familiarity with automation roadmaps, shared services models, and technology-enabled process improvement initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions across business and technical audiences.
• Proven success supporting implementations through requirement validation, solution review, testing, and adoption activities.
