Job description

Title: AI Automation Engineer

Reports to: CIO (Chief Information Officer)

Classification: Exempt

Workstyle: Hybrid; 3 days in office

Location: Atlanta, GA

Salary: $110k - $120k

(Please note that this role is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance.)

Who we are:

Extu is scaling from $60M toward $150M+, and operational efficiency will be a key driver of that growth. This role focuses on identifying and building practical automation and AI-driven solutions that improve how work gets done.

We believe growth happens through smart execution, strong collaboration, and continuous improvement. Our culture balances speed with support, giving our teams the space to build, test, and improve how work gets done.

Job Summary:

The AI Automation Engineer is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for designing and implementing automation and AI-assisted solutions that improve operational efficiency across the business.

This role focuses on executing against a prioritized roadmap developed in partnership with the CIO, targeting high-impact workflows where automation can reduce manual effort, improve speed, and support scalable growth.

This is a builder role, not a leadership or strategy-only position. Success is measured by delivered solutions, adoption by teams, and measurable efficiency gains.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Automation & Solution Development

  • Design and implement automation solutions for repeatable, high-volume workflows (e.g., onboarding, campaign execution, reporting, support processes)
  • Build AI-assisted workflows using appropriate tools (e.g., Zapier, Make, n8n, APIs, LLM-based tools)
  • Incorporate human review checkpoints where accuracy and quality are critical
  • Focus on practical, maintainable solutions rather than overly complex designs

Workflow Optimization

  • Assess targeted business processes identified by leadership to identify inefficiencies and automation opportunities
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions that improve speed, accuracy, and scalability
  • Deliver measurable improvements in time savings and process efficiency

Roadmap Execution

  • Partner with the CIO to co-develop and execute a prioritized automation roadmap
  • Contribute to prioritization based on ROI, effort, and risk
  • Provide input on tools, systems, and opportunities for continuous improvement

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with teams across Sales, Marketing, Client Services, and Operations to understand workflow challenges
  • Build solutions in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure usability and adoption
  • Support teams in integrating automation into their day-to-day work

AI Enablement & Support

  • Support rollout of AI tools to targeted users and teams based on business need
  • Develop simple, role-specific guidance for tool usage
  • Monitor adoption and gather feedback to improve solutions over time

Tool & Process Optimization

  • Evaluate current tools and identify opportunities to improve efficiency or reduce waste
  • Recommend solutions based on cost, impact, and ease of implementation
  • Prioritize simplicity and speed-to-value over over-engineering

General

  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs
  • This role operates within Extu's existing systems, security standards, and governance frameworks

Job Specifications (Required Skills)

Experience:

  • 3-5+ years in technical, engineering, or operations-related roles
  • Hands-on experience building automation or AI-enabled workflows in a business environment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver working solutions used by internal teams

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Zapier, Make, n8n)
  • Familiarity with APIs, system integrations, and workflow design
  • Exposure to AI tools such as LLMs or copilots (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
  • Understanding of data handling, system access, and basic security considerations

Core Competencies:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on practical execution
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills (Non-Essential):

  • Experience in SaaS, B2B, or digital services environments
  • Exposure to process improvement or workflow optimization initiatives
  • Experience supporting adoption of new tools or systems within teams

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working on a computer
  • Ability to move within the office environment as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video, and in-person meetings

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment (home and office)
  • Standard office setting with collaborative team interaction

  • Flexible PTO program
  • Hybrid work flexibility
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning and professional development opportunities

  • Volunteer opportunities and community involvement
