Job description

Colonial Williamsburg boasts a rich history as well, having hosted and entertained guests from around the world with an impressive collection of amenities including our hotels, guests homes, food and beverage outlets, championship golf courses, and spa and fitness center. Crescent Hotels and Resorts is seeking an experienced individual to join our team at the Colonial Williamsburg Resort to fill the position of Director of Agronomy to oversee the maintenance, operation, and management of resort golf courses.
Here is what you will be doing:
  • Supervise the mowing, watering and maintenance of tees, greens, fairways and related areas.
  • Supervise the planting, fertilizing and maintenance of turf.
  • Supervise the installation and care of golf course landscaping including trees, shrubs, grasses, ornamental plants, water features, irrigations systems, etc.
  • Generally supervise the operation of equipment repair shop.
  • Layout and direct the construction of greens, bunkers, tees and fairways as needed.
  • Basic computer skills to create personnel and cost estimates for the annual Agronomy budget.
  • Order supplies and materials within budgetary limitations.
  • Work with vendors and contractors to obtain bids, and schedule and complete contracted work.
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-term Capex planning.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance practices are being followed to care for all assets.
  • Hire, train, plan, assign and direct the work of others.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Prepare annual budget.
  • Maintain effective employee, Member and public relations.

Qualifications we are seeking:
  • Bachelor's degree or four to six years of experience in golf course maintenance.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of:
    • Construction and maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, bunkers, and greens
    • Production and maintenance of the types of turf used on golf courses
    • Planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees
    • Proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners
    • Herbicides and pest control methods and materials
    • Drainage control methods
    • Water and irrigation systems including wells, pumps and automatic controls
    • Construction and maintenance of golf cart paths
  • Ability to maintain tees, fairways, bunkers, greens, and appurtenances to an acceptable standard of golf course play.
  • Should have a participating knowledge of the game of golf.
