Job description

Pharmacy Technician

The purpose of the position is to provide support and assistance to the pharmacist in the daily operation of the Pharmacy.

Work is performed in a clinical environment. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials. Appropriate measures must be taken for protection against infection and radiation.

The work requires standing for long periods and working about the work unit. Work also requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, and stretching.

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

  1. Checks pharmacy stock to see that proper levels are maintained, stock rotated, and proper storage conditions are present. Should be able to detect and refer to supervisor any unusual conditions in the above.
  2. Performs pre-packaging of pharmaceutical into appropriate containers under the supervision of the clinic pharmacist.
  3. Assists pharmacist in filling and refilling of patient medications by operating the computer system and performing miscellaneous functions as requested.
  4. Assists pharmacist in refilling and maintaining robotic and automated dispensing unit medication stock.
  5. Assist in proper documentation of pharmacy actions into patient medical record.
  6. Assists pharmacist in checking and stocking supplies received. Checks to see that amount received is equal to the amount ordered; sees that stock is rotated as it is stored.
  7. Responsible for keeping the Pharmacy area neat and orderly.
  8. Regular attendance is required.
  9. Performs other duties as required.
