Job Summary: Magnum Venus Products (MVP) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support R&D initiatives, product improvements, and engineering documentation updates in our Motion Division. MVP Motion Engineering designs custom manufacturing equipment for the composites industry. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical design experience, a passion for hands-on problem solving, and the ability to collaborate closely with manufacturing, R&D, and product management teams to bring concepts from design through production.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support research and development projects, from concept generation to prototype build and testing.
  • Identify, design, and implement product improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models and engineering drawings in accordance with MVP standards.
  • Partner with the internal machine shop and production teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and optimized for manufacturability.
  • Conduct design reviews, tolerance analyses, and root cause investigations for product issues.
  • Support engineering change requests (ECRs) and documentation updates through MVP's PLM/ERP systems.
  • Participate in prototype testing, data collection, and validation reporting for new and improved products.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Operations, and Quality to ensure successful implementation of design changes and new product introductions.
  • Assist in vendor communication and component selection, particularly for mechanical and fluid handling components.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor & AutoCAD preferred) and mechanical drawing standards.
  • Proficiency with product data management software and best practices (Autodesk Vault preferred)
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, assembly, etc.) and GD&T principles.
  • Experience collaborating with machine shops and understanding of design-for-manufacturability (DFM) best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Experience in pumping, metering, or fluid dispensing systems. (Preferred)
  • Experience with linear motion systems including gear reducers, chain drives, rack & pinion drives, and ball screws. (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems. (Preferred)
  • Exposure to prototype testing, data analysis, and experimental design. (Preferred)

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing computer-aided design work, testing, and documentation.
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to operate tools, computer equipment, and handle components.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move objects up to 40 pounds occasionally (prototype parts, test fixtures, or small assemblies).
  • Capable of bending, reaching, and walking throughout the facility, including the engineering lab and machine shop areas.
  • Periodic exposure to manufacturing environments with noise, moving machinery, and airborne particulates; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and required.
  • Ability to visually inspect components and drawings for accuracy and quality.
