What is an AutoCAD Project Manager?

An AutoCAD Project Manager is a professional who oversees design projects that utilize AutoCAD software, ensuring that drafting and design tasks are completed accurately and on schedule. They coordinate between clients, engineers, architects, and drafting teams to manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables. Their role includes supervising drawing production, maintaining quality standards, and resolving any technical issues related to AutoCAD. They also often handle project budgeting and communication to ensure the successful completion of design objectives.

How does an AutoCAD Project Manager typically coordinate with design and engineering teams during a project?

An AutoCAD Project Manager regularly collaborates with design and engineering teams to ensure project drawings and technical documentation meet both client requirements and industry standards. This involves leading coordination meetings, reviewing and providing feedback on CAD models, and managing revisions based on input from architects, engineers, and stakeholders. The manager also ensures that deadlines are met and that any issues with design compatibility or constructability are resolved promptly. Effective communication and organization are key, as the Project Manager often acts as the central point of contact for all drawing-related queries throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Manager

David Nice Builders

Job description

At David Nice Builders, we craft construction masterpieces through integrity, enduring relationships, and passionate people. Nicewood Enterprises, our architectural millwork division, takes that standard into a specialized world where precision fabrication meets exacting client expectations. We're looking for a driven, detail-oriented Project Manager to own complex millwork projects from first drawing to final delivery.
About Nicewood
Nicewood is DNB's architectural millwork division, part of a four-division commercial construction company with roughly 170 employees headquartered in Virginia. We design, fabricate, and deliver custom millwork for commercial clients across the region, operating at the intersection of manufacturing precision and construction coordination. This is not a theoretical project management role. You will be on the floor, in the drawings, on the phone with architects and contractors, and at the dock when product ships.
Position Overview
The Project Manager at Nicewood is the primary point of contact for every project in their portfolio, responsible for taking a job from initial planning through fabrication, shipping, and delivery. You will coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors on the outside, and work directly with our CAD engineers, production manager, and shop floor on the inside. You will own the schedule, the budget, the drawings, and the outcome.
This is a role for someone who thrives on complexity and accountability. Multiple projects, competing priorities, technical detail, and client relationships will all be yours to manage simultaneously. If you have been the person keeping a project on track behind the scenes and are ready to carry the title that matches the work, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as the primary client contact across the full project lifecycle, from drawing review and technical clarification through fabrication milestones and delivery.
  • Collaborate with our CAD engineers to oversee shop drawing production, review and maintain updated drawing sets, and ensure all documents reflect current client specifications.
  • Develop project schedules in coordination with the Production Manager, identify long-lead procurement items early, and monitor milestones to keep every project on track.
  • Build and manage detailed project budgets, including material costs, labor estimates, and vendor pricing. Track expenditures and flag variances before they become problems.
  • Conduct site visits to capture field dimensions, validate architectural plans, and confirm specifications directly with architects and contractors.
  • Perform regular shop floor walkthroughs to verify fabrication quality and confirm work in progress matches scope and drawings.
  • Coordinate all shipping logistics, including hands-on involvement in loading preparation when the schedule demands it.
  • Manage change orders, scope adjustments, and client-initiated revisions with clear documentation and stakeholder communication throughout.

What We're Looking For
We care about what you've done and what you're capable of, not just the title on your resume. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate:
  • Project coordination or management experience in architectural millwork, custom fabrication, commercial construction, or a closely related field. If you understand how a shop drawing becomes a finished product, that foundation matters more to us than your job title.
  • The ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and engineering documents. You do not need to be a drafter, but you need to be fluent in the language of technical drawings.
  • Hands-on schedule ownership. You have managed timelines, tracked milestones, and made the calls needed to keep a project moving when things shift.
  • Procurement and vendor management experience. You know how to solicit and evaluate quotes, manage lead times, and keep material flow aligned with production.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You will represent Nicewood to architects, contractors, and clients. Clarity and professionalism are non-negotiable.
  • Technical proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software, and comfort working in project management and office productivity tools.
  • A compliance and quality mindset. Accuracy in documentation, adherence to scope, and attention to fabrication standards are core to how we operate.
  • Organizational discipline under pressure. Multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines is the baseline here, not the exception.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You Are:
  • An experienced Project Manager from an architectural millwork, casework, or custom fabrication environment ready to bring your full capability to a company that takes craftsmanship seriously.
  • A Project Assistant, shop coordinator, or production coordinator who has been managing the details of complex projects and is ready to own the full PM role formally.
  • A construction professional, estimator, or field coordinator with strong technical drawing fluency and fabrication exposure who is ready to make the transition into a manufacturing-side PM role.

Why Join Us?
  • You will own your work. This role carries real authority and real accountability. You will not be one of many PMs pushing paper through a system. Your projects are yours.
  • Direct access to leadership. You report to the EVP and Plant Operations Manager in a company of 170 people. Decisions get made, and you are part of making them.
  • A company that invests in the people who deliver results. DNB promotes from within and builds careers alongside buildings. If you grow into this role and beyond it, there is a path here.
  • Stability and craft. Nicewood has been producing high-quality architectural millwork as part of a decades-established company. We hire carefully, train deliberately, and hold the standard high.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
