Job description

We are hiring immediately for a Railroad Auto Inspector to Join or team at the Norfolk Southern Doremus, NJ auto facility in a recession-proof industry! This is an entry-level position and no experience is required as we'll teach you everything you need to know in order to be successful on the job. This is an essential job and you'll have the opportunity to work for the #1 intermodal contractor in the United States!

APPLICANTS MUST currently live within a 45-minute commute of Newark, NJ. OUT OF AREA candidates and/or those requiring relocation will NOT be considered.
Summary/Objective:

The Auto Inspector is responsible for verifying the inventory of equipment and autos as well as checking incoming and outgoing equipment for damage.

Responsibilities:
  • Inspects Auto units arriving and departing the railroad intermodal facility on train for unit number and damage to the unit.  Inspects all auto units.  
  • The position requires the employee to work both outdoors in all weather as well as indoors in a professional office environment.
  • This position requires travel throughout the yard verifying the initials and numbers of the units parked on the yard. 
  • This position requires regular chassis checks typically taking approximately 2 hours in all weather conditions outside the vehicle walking on the intermodal ramp checking numbers.  
  • The incumbent is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, a safety vest and protective hard hat when outdoors.  
  • The performance of the Intermodal Unit Inspector is measured mainly by the accuracy of the trailer/container unit verification and the performance of these duties in a safe accident and injury-free manner.
  • The position must be aware of units moving in and around the intermodal yard. 
  • Maintain a safe distance from moving vehicles at all times.
  • Taking photographs of the damage and completing necessary paperwork.

Be aware of the office surroundings avoiding slips, trips, and falls.
