Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul all types of powered industrial forklifts (gas, electric, or propane) and other company and warehouse mobile equipment 
  • Inspect and test equipment at prescribed intervals of time or usage or because of breakdown or malfunction 
  • Immediately remove any potentially dangerous equipment from service 
  • Inspect, test, and align lights and wheels and maintains electrical systems and controls 
  • Disassemble, inspect, and replace worn or broken parts 
  • Grind and fit parts as required to maintain or overhaul motors, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, steering devices, brakes and wheels, lifts, hoists, and hydraulic systems 
  • Test drive repaired equipment before turning over to operators 
  • Change batteries or propane tanks as determined by vehicle design 
  • Charge batteries and maintain battery fluid at prescribed level 
  • Clean battery connectors 
  • Stores empty propane tanks safely in outside storage cage 
  • Maintain records of vehicle maintenance and parts usage 
  • May repaint vehicles 
  • Work with electrician on complex electrical problems on truck 
  • May assist in loading/unloading propane tanks from outside supplier's truck 
  • Order repair parts from stores department or designated outside suppliers 
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment noted and corrective action taken 
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is mandatory 
  • Other duties and assignments as requested by management 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of minor forklift equipment repair and maintenance  
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions  
  • Must wear protective equipment such as goggles, face shield, gloves, and work apron 
  • Frequently involves heavy lifting, pulling (up to 50 pounds) or working in awkward positions or lying on back on auto mechanic's "creeper," working beneath truck 
  • Close mental and visual effort 
  • Perform a variety of minor repair, replacement, and maintenance tasks on heavy and light equipment  
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions  
  • Use and care of tools used in equipment repair work  
  • Operate a two-way radio and telephone  
  • Must be able to be to work on time with good attendance 


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications 

  • HS diploma or equivalent work experience 
  • Certified to operate a forklift  
  • Minimum 3 years of experience repairing forklifts 
  • Proficiency on computer, using MS Office (Excel, Work, and Outlook) required 
  • Effective professional written and verbal communication skills • Active driver’s license in good standing 


Physical Job Description 

  • Typical Working Conditions: Constant travel by truck to other Biagi Bros locations includes work inside warehouse. Mobility within a warehouse and field environment; exposure to fume/odor, dust/mite, and mechanical hazards. 
  • Equipment Used: Operate forklift, two-way radio or cellphone, and mechanic tools.  
  • Essential Physical Tasks: Exposure to constant noise, standing, walking, squatting, stooping, sorting, twisting body, sitting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reading, decision making, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, seeing, using both hands for simple and firm grasping, using both feet for smooth and safe control of pedals, clarity of hearing, communicating clearly and effectively (in person and by two-way radio), fine finger manipulation
