Position Overview

We are seeking a fully trained shop mechanic capable of executing all essential shop duties and routine preventative maintenance tasks. This role involves performing repairs on trailers and conducting minor repairs on refrigeration power units.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: $28.00 to $30.00, depending on experience, plus a shift premium of $0.40 per hour.
  • Work Schedule: Sunday to Thursday, starting at 2:30 PM.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance starting on your 60th day, along with FSA/HSA options and company-paid life insurance.
  • Accrue vacation time and sick leave from day one, with paid holidays available after 90 days.
  • Participate in a 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan after 90 days.

Key Responsibilities as a Mechanic II
  • Execute tasks typical of a Grade 4 Mechanic.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration systems.
  • Perform both simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Independently diagnose, remove, repair, replace, or rebuild components such as:
    • Clutches
    • Water pumps
    • Tires
    • Tractor suspension
    • Body repairs
    • Rear differentials
    • Drive lines
    • Transmissions
    • Wheel seals
    • Brake systems
  • Diagnose and tune up diesel engines.
  • Perform front wheel and axle alignments on trailers.
  • Troubleshoot cooling systems and conduct diagnostic tests.
  • Utilize cutting torches and welding machines for repairs.
  • Interpret service bulletins and technical manuals.
  • Maintain shop tools and complete necessary paperwork and computer entries.
  • Adhere to company work and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors and peers.
  • Follow instructions and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Complete training and certification for required equipment within 30 days of hire.
  • Abide by the company attendance policy and maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate job demands, including on-call rotations and road calls using a company vehicle.
Qualifications for Mechanic II
  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade school completion in heavy-duty diesel repairs and/or refrigeration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel repairs, tractor-trailer maintenance, and refrigeration systems.
  • One year of documented fleet maintenance experience or one year of employment with the company at the Class C Technician level.
  • Possess basic hand tools (up to ½" drive) and a tool storage solution.
  • Obtain ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) within one year of hire.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License required; Class A is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Hold certifications in the following areas:
    • International Maxx Force 13 Engines
    • Transportation Refrigeration
    • Brake Systems and Components
    • Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license required)
    • Trailer Refrigeration (608 license required for trailer units)
    • Heavy Duty Electrical Diagnostics and Repairs
  • ASE Certification in heavy-duty mechanics and Cummins or Detroit certification is preferred.

This role necessitates the ability to read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient for performing job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and essential communications related to the position, ensuring compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
