POSITION GOAL:Â An Autistic Support Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an instructional program for students identified with autism or autism spectrum disorders, to enable them to achieve their maximum potential. Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Supervisor, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.Â
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a classroom management system.
- Deliver instruction based on the general education curriculum, IEP supports and PA Academic Standards.
- Assess students in academics, functional life skills and social interactions in a school environment.
- Design and deliver an educational program based on the individual needs of the students, including behavior management.
- Collaborate/communicate with regular education teachers, related services providers, parents, & school district staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team
- Capacity to nurture students and work collaboratively with families.
- Maintains up-to-date IEP records and data collection on each student.
- Ability to establish an effective and efficient classroom culture
- Develop IEPs for any newly identified students.
- Collaborate with regular education teachers to deliver instruction.
- Provide parent support and guidance in navigating the online instruction and how best to support their students
- Remain current in the field of special education and research-based strategies.
- Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determine goals, objectives, and directions.
- Prepare appropriate paperwork, including report cards, educational records, IEP forms, and classroom observation records.
- Create a classroom environment that emphasizes and supports literacy and math across all content areas
- Possess a professional growth mindset that contributes to a community of educators
SUPPORTS:
In addition to the New Teacher Induction Program, new teachers in the Owen J. Roberts School District receive a mentor teacher to support their acclimation to the district and provide ongoing support throughout the school year. Also, special education teachers are supported by IEP Facilitators. The IEP Facilitators work under the special education supervisors to assist with IEP development and review, consult on behavior and instruction, and serve as LEA for IEP meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
-Bachelor's Degree.
-Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Special Education.
-Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
-Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in oral and written communications, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
-Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
-Well organized with good time management skills.
-Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 190 days, 7 hours, 30 minutes per day.
- Bachelor's Degree starting $60,250; Master's Degree starting $65,900; Final salary determined by education and experience.
- Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Roberts Education Association.
