Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive, analytical Import Customs Specialist with hands-on customs entry writing experience and deep expertise in U.S. import processes. In this role, you will execute day-to-day import compliance activities, ensure adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, manage Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and support USMCA free trade agreement initiatives.
 
The ideal candidate possesses recent (within the last 3–5 years) hands-on customs broker or entry writer experience, strong data analytics skills in Excel, and an up-to-date understanding of the U.S. trade environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Import Operations & Entry Auditing: Execute day-to-day import compliance and customs operations; audit customs entries for accuracy, track shipment holds/delays, and resolve entry discrepancies.
  • HTS Classification & BOM Review: Assign and review Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, analyze Bills of Materials (BOMs) to validate product categories, and evaluate duty implications.
  • Broker & Logistics Oversight: Assist in managing external customs brokers, ensuring strict adherence to U.S. entry operations guidelines, CBP regulations, and internal compliance standards.
  • USMCA & FTA Program Management: Review supplier USMCA certifications, conduct qualification reviews/solicitations, validate rules of origin, and maintain audit-ready documentation to maximize preferential duty benefits.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to gather customs documentation and ensure compliant import workflows.
  • Data Analytics & System Reporting: Utilize Excel and digital compliance platforms to analyze trade data, track compliance metrics, perform audit readiness reviews, and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay current on U.S. trade events, tariffs, and CBP regulatory updates, escalating potential compliance risks to leadership promptly.
 
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Recent Industry Experience: 3 to 5+ years of recent experience in U.S. import compliance, customs brokerage, or customs entry writing.
  • HTS & Entry Writing Expertise: Proven ability to classify goods/commodities (HTS), review Bills of Materials (BOMs), and audit customs entry documentation.
  • USMCA Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with USMCA qualification, rules of origin, supplier certifications, and preferential trade documentation.
  • Technical & Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data manipulation, reporting, analytics) and comfort adapting to modern, AI-enabled trade technology platforms.
  • Broker Management: Practical understanding of third-party customs broker operations and CBP entry procedures.
  • Location & Work Schedule: Ability to work onsite in Alpharetta/Atlanta, GA for an initial 1–2 week onboarding period before transitioning remote; must operate on Eastern Time (EST).
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensing: Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is highly desirable.
  • Trade Optimization: Experience auditing entries for trade compliance optimization and duty savings opportunities.
