Job Overview

Calvert Masonry Inc. is seeking an experienced and proactive Commercial Superintendent to lead high-profile commercial masonry, concrete, and restoration projects. The superintendent will be assigned multiple projects of various size and complexity, with primary oversight responsibility and support of operations on his/her assigned projects. The Superintendent is the primary point of contact for the Project Foreman with respect to manpower, equipment, production, quality and safety; the Superintendent will also work hand in hand with the assigned Project Manager to insure proper start-up and execution of projects. The Superintendent reports directly to the President and/or Director of Field Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor internal start-up processes (e.g. long lead materials orders, pre-construction meetings, scaffold plans, mock-ups) to insure consistent with schedule needs
  • Initiate and supervise contract masonry mock-up and flashing mock-up to insure materials and detailing is approved in advance of construction
  • Confirm that proper coordination information is being obtained by Project Manager and Job Foreman, from General Contractor and other trades to insure proper interface with masonry work
  • Inspect quality and productivity through regular jobsite visits; address and timely bring to resolution with Job Foreman and Project Manager;
  • Review Schedule of Values and draft progress billings, and schedule activities favorable to cash flow needs whenever possible
  • Assist foreman and project manager at jobsite as necessary for layout and inventory reconciliation, and for explanation of details, plan changes and material orders;
  • Inspect and address any observed safety concerns (e.g. fall protection, scaffold stability, equipment audio/visual warning devices) during site visits; support Safety Director in insuring adherence to corporate safety policies and procedures
  • Evaluate and adjust as required masonry schedule and sequencing for compliance with project schedule and for profitable manpower and equipment levels; identify and address General Contractor and other tradesโ€™ progress or actions that adversely impact Calvertโ€™s progress and work
  • Alert Project Manager regarding changed conditions affecting Calvertโ€™s price and time of performance, including job factors and conditions to be taken into consideration for pricing
  • Maintain relationships with General Contractor operations staff; bring issues to prompt resolution; follow through with corporate officer to resolve at next level if required;
  • Schedule equipment and manpower movements, scaffold and washdown crew activities, and trucking in coordination with other Superintendents and Director of Field Operations


Qualifications

  • Commercial masonry and concrete field experience, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex architectural drawings, structural plans, and project specifications.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED required; continuing education or certifications in construction management are beneficial.
  • Knowledgeable in equipment operation, safety and general maintenance requirements (forklifts, mixers, saws, pallet jacks, etc)
  • Knowledgeable in scaffold systems, safety and general operation/parts
  • Knowledgeable in crane rigging/hoisting signals, safety and load limitations
  • Knowledgeable in masonry and grout systems and techniques, and through-wall flashing systems
  • Perform specific operational task assignments at discretion of Director of Field Operations
