Canton, MA

Full-time

Re-posted 26 days ago

Job description

Sales Design Engineer (Pro A/V Systems) Location: Canton, MA (Onsite / Client Sites)
Compensation: Competitive base + commission + full benefits

Own the technical truth - from discovery through commissioning.

The Sales Design Engineer (SE) is responsible for technical discovery, system design, and scope definition for Pro A/V integration projects. You partner closely with Sales to shape solutions that are buildable, supportable, and profitable - and you remain accountable through commissioning to ensure systems perform as designed.

You do not carry a sales quota.
You do carry responsibility for technical accuracy, clarity at handoff, and system performance.

This role is ideal for a senior designer, engineer, or field leader who wants to influence outcomes upstream and ensure what gets sold can be delivered cleanly.

What Youll Own

  • Lead technical discovery alongside Sales during client meetings and site walks
  • Define system architecture, signal flow, and design intent across audio, video, lighting, and control
  • Develop clear, buildable scopes of work and system designs
  • Select equipment and platforms appropriate to use case, budget, and long-term support
  • Produce or review system documentation (single-lines, risers, rack concepts, narratives)
  • Validate feasibility, risk, and assumptions prior to proposal submission
  • Sign off on technical scope at handoff
  • Partner with Project Managers and Install Leads during execution
  • Remain accountable through commissioning to verify systems meet design intent

What You Are Not Responsible For

  • Owning client relationships or closing sales
  • Carrying a revenue quota
  • Day-to-day project management
  • Managing field crews or installation schedules

(You collaborate closely - you do not absorb these roles.)

What Success Looks Like

  • Systems are clearly defined, buildable, and delivered without rework
  • PMs and Install Leads receive clean, complete handoffs
  • Commissioning confirms performance matches intent
  • Sales trusts your technical judgment and scope discipline

Who Thrives Here

  • 47+ years of experience in Pro A/V systems design, engineering, or integration
  • Strong command of signal flow, system architecture, and integrated A/V platforms
  • Experience with design/build and consultant-led projects
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to Sales, PMs, installers, and clients
  • Comfortable balancing multiple projects with attention to detail
