Job description

Field Installation Technician โ€“ AV & Smart Home Systems

Audio Video Interiors | Los Angeles / Southern California

Full-time | Field-based

About Audio Video Interiors

Audio Video Interiors designs, installs, and supports high-quality residential audio/video, home theater, screening rooms, lighting control, networking, surveillance, and smart-home systems throughout Southern California and beyond.

We work in finished residences, commercial facilities, active construction sites, and other environments where technical ability, attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for the clientโ€™s property are equally important. We are seeking an experienced Field Installation Technician who can contribute throughout the installation processโ€”not someone whose experience is limited to pulling wire.

The Position

The Field Installation Technician will install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, document, and assist with the commissioning of integrated technology systems.

The right candidate will be comfortable working independently when appropriate, following project documentation, communicating clearly with the project manager and other trades, and recognizing when a condition in the field requires additional direction.

This position requires technical skill, good judgment, a clean and organized work style, and the ability to represent AV Interiors professionally in front of clients, designers, builders, and other project partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install audio/video, networking, lighting-control, surveillance, control, and related low-voltage equipment.
  • Install and properly mount televisions, projectors, projection screens, speakers, cameras, wireless access points, keypads, touch panels, equipment racks, and other system components.
  • Build, wire, dress, label, and organize equipment racks to a professional standard.
  • Terminate and test category cable, coaxial cable, speaker wire, fiber, control wiring, and other low-voltage cabling.
  • Read and follow system drawings, floor plans, elevations, schematics, equipment lists, wire schedules, scopes of work, and installation notes.
  • Verify that field conditions match the project documentation and promptly report conflicts, missing information, damage, or required changes.
  • Perform trim-out, equipment installation, system hookup, testing, and punch-list work.
  • Diagnose common audio, video, control, power, cabling, and network-related problems.
  • Perform basic network and device setup, including IP addressing, firmware updates, device discovery, connectivity testing, and coordination with system programmers.
  • Test installed systems and verify that equipment is operating correctly before leaving the jobsite.
  • Assist programmers, project managers, and senior technicians with system commissioning and final client preparation.
  • Protect finished surfaces and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Coordinate professionally with electricians, builders, designers, IT providers, security contractors, and other trades.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of time, work completed, materials used, site conditions, photographs, open issues, and required follow-up.
  • Keep company tools, test equipment, materials, and vehicles organized and properly maintained.
  • Explain basic system operation to clients when requested and communicate service concerns clearly and respectfully.
  • Complete service calls, system upgrades, equipment replacements, and troubleshooting assignments.
  • Travel to project locations throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding Southern California area.

Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of hands-on experience installing residential or commercial audio/video, smart-home, networking, security, or other integrated low-voltage systems.
  • Experience beyond basic pre-wire and cable pulling.
  • Ability to install equipment, complete terminations, test wiring, identify faults, and troubleshoot common system problems.
  • Experience building and dressing equipment racks.
  • Working understanding of audio/video signal flow and basic residential networking.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, scopes of work, and project documentation.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, ladders, cable testers, tone generators, meters, and other installation equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work correctly rather than merely completing it quickly.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with project managers, coworkers, clients, and other trades.
  • Professional appearance and conduct appropriate for work in high-end residences and occupied homes.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while also following company procedures and project direction.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to travel reliably to jobsites.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry equipment, work from ladders, access equipment areas, and perform the normal physical duties associated with field installation work.

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

  • Distributed audio and video systems
  • Home theater and screening-room systems
  • Lighting-control systems
  • Motorized shades
  • Residential networking and Wi-Fi systems
  • Surveillance and access-control equipment
  • Control systems such as Crestron, Control4, Savant, or comparable platforms
  • Lutron lighting and shading systems
  • Equipment-rack fabrication and system documentation
  • D-Tools or similar project-management and system-design documentation
  • CEDIA training or certification, particularly Integrated Systems Technician certification
  • Manufacturer training or certifications related to AV, networking, lighting, control, or surveillance systems

* Equivalent field experience and demonstrated technical ability will be considered in place of certifications or formal education.

What Success Looks Like

A successful technician at AV Interiors:

  • Arrives prepared and understands the dayโ€™s assignment.
  • Reviews the project documentation before beginning work.
  • Installs equipment carefully, cleanly, and according to the design.
  • Tests work rather than assuming it is correct.
  • Identifies problems early and communicates them clearly.
  • Documents completed work and outstanding issues accurately.
  • Protects the clientโ€™s property and leaves the work area clean.
  • Works productively without sacrificing quality.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned work and follows through.
  • Continues learning as systems, products, and technologies change.

Why Join AV Interiors?

This is an opportunity to work on sophisticated technology systems and develop skills beyond basic low-voltage installation. The position offers exposure to complete integrated systems, including audio/video, home theater, networking, lighting, control, surveillance, and related technologies.

We value technicians who take pride in their work, want to improve their technical abilities, and understand that successful installations require craftsmanship, communication, documentation, and accountability.

How to Apply

Please submit your rรฉsumรฉ or LinkedIn profile along with a brief description of:

  • Your field-installation experience
  • The types of systems you have installed
  • The brands or platforms you know
  • Your experience with rack fabrication and troubleshooting
  • Your current location and availability

Audio Video Interiors is an equal-opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, experience, demonstrated ability, and the requirements of the position.
