Job description

The Audio Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of professional audiovisual systems supporting Liberty Alliance's internal operations, customer demonstrations, government events, conferences, and field deployments.

This position works closely with the Technology Department, Engineering, Software Development, and Program Management teams to deploy and operate professional AV, broadcast, and streaming solutions utilizing BirdDog cameras, NDI workflows, Dante audio, video wall systems, live production switchers, OBS Studio, and enterprise AV over IP technologies.

The ideal candidate has experience with professional live production environments, AV networking, broadcast systems, and event technology while possessing strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Key Responsibilities

Live Event Production

  • Setup, configure, operate, and tear down professional AV systems for customer demonstrations, conferences, trade shows, and government events.
  • Operate live productions utilizing BirdDog cameras, NDI workflows, OBS Studio, and professional video switchers.
  • Configure and manage live video streaming for both internal and external events.
  • Support executive presentations, customer demonstrations, webinars, and hybrid meetings.
  • Perform live production support while maintaining high production quality under tight timelines.

AV System Installation & Integration

  • Install, configure, and maintain professional AV systems throughout Liberty Alliance facilities.
  • Configure BirdDog cameras, BirdDog Play devices, BirdDog VideoWall systems, and NDI workflows.
  • Install and configure displays, monitors, projectors, LED video walls, televisions, and digital signage.
  • Install wall-mounted displays, camera systems, microphones, speakers, and rack-mounted equipment.
  • Perform cable routing, termination, labeling, and testing for Cat5e/Cat6, HDMI, SDI, USB, XLR, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Assist with conference room AV integrations and Microsoft Teams Room systems.

Broadcast & Streaming Systems

  • Configure and operate OBS Studio for live production and streaming.
  • Build and manage production scenes, sources, transitions, overlays, and recording profiles.
  • Configure and troubleshoot NDI Tools including:
  • NDI Studio Monitor
  • NDI Screen Capture
  • NDI Bridge
  • NDI Virtual Input
  • NDI Router
  • Configure BirdDog Central and BirdDog management software.
  • Operate hardware and software video switchers.
  • Configure Elgato Stream Deck controllers for automated production workflows.
  • Troubleshoot latency, synchronization, and network-based video transport issues.

Audio Systems

  • Configure, operate, and troubleshoot professional audio systems.
  • Configure Dante audio networks using Dante Controller.
  • Route audio between digital mixers, computers, cameras, and production systems.
  • Configure microphones, wireless microphone systems, audio interfaces, and speakers.
  • Troubleshoot audio routing, synchronization, echo, latency, and signal issues.
  • Perform basic audio mixing during live events.

AV Networking

  • Configure AV over IP systems utilizing NDI and Dante.
  • Troubleshoot multicast and unicast network traffic.
  • Configure managed network switches supporting AV deployments.
  • Understand VLANs, QoS, multicast, IGMP Snooping, and AV network optimization.
  • Collaborate with the IT Department regarding AV network infrastructure.
  • Assist in configuring wireless and wired AV devices.

Video Wall Systems

  • Configure and maintain BirdDog VideoWall deployments.
  • Configure multiple display arrays and video processors.
  • Troubleshoot display synchronization, scaling, EDID, and signal routing.
  • Configure video distribution across multiple displays.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and AV system issues.
  • Troubleshoot cameras, switchers, audio systems, encoders, decoders, and streaming platforms.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on AV equipment.
  • Support internal staff and customers during live productions.
  • Quickly resolve issues while events are actively in progress.

Inventory & Asset Management

  • Maintain inventory of AV equipment.
  • Track equipment check-in/check-out.
  • Label and organize AV hardware.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and replacements.

  • Experience supporting live events, conferences, or broadcast productions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
