Job description

A-TEK is seeking a motivated AV Engineer 1 to support our Federal Customer in Montgomery, MD. AV Engineer 1 assists with the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of professional audio-visual systems. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role supports conference rooms, auditoriums, digital signage, video conferencing systems, and live event environments. Ability to obtain and retain a public trust level clearance is required for consideration. This is a hybrid position based in Rockville, MD.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in installing AV equipment such as displays, projectors, speakers, microphones, cameras, and control systems.
  • Configure and test video conferencing platforms (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Cisco Webex).
  • Run, terminate, and label AV cabling (HDMI, CAT6, audio cables).
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Respond and track service request tickets using ServiceNow.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and system upgrades.
  • Support live meetings, presentations, and special events.
  • Prepare documentation, wiring diagrams, and installation reports.
  • Work with senior engineers during system integration and commissioning.
  • Follow company safety standards and installation best practices.
  • Provide basic user training and technical support.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of AV or IT support experience.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Audio systems
    • Video displays and projectors
    • AV signal flow
    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP)
    • Microsoft Teams or Zoom
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Knowledge of Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, or Shure.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
