Job description

Position Summary

UControl is looking for a Residential AV & Smart Home Sales Consultant to help develop new business, meet with clients, understand their needs, design technology solutions, and guide projects from initial consultation through approved scope.

This is not a retail sales role. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, technically curious, and comfortable selling high-end residential technology systems. This person should be able to communicate clearly with homeowners, builders, designers, architects, and internal project teams while helping clients make confident decisions about their home technology.

Typical systems include home automation, lighting control, motorized window treatments, lighting fixtures and design, audio/video, theater and living space furniture, networking, surveillance, access control, security, climate control, and related smart home technology. Common platforms and brands include Control4, Crestron, Lutron, and other premium residential technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients, builders, designers, architects, and contractors to understand project goals, budgets, timelines, and expectations.
  • Sell custom residential AV, smart home automation, lighting control, networking, security, surveillance, shading, and related technology systems.
  • Prepare accurate proposals, scopes of work, system recommendations, and change orders based on client needs.
  • Walk job sites, review plans, identify opportunities, and coordinate project kickoffs with design, project management, engineering, and field teams.
  • Follow up with leads, maintain client communication, and keep records updated in CRM and proposal software.
  • Maintain contact with clients during and after projects to ensure satisfaction and identify future upgrade opportunities.
  • Conduct client demonstrations, user lessons, and system handoffs when needed.
  • Attend vendor-specific sales trainings, conventions, trade shows, and product education events.

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 3 years of audio/video, smart home, low-voltage, or related sales experience preferred.
  • Experience in interior design, construction, architecture, or luxury residential projects is also welcome.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a polished, professional client-facing presence.
  • Comfortable reading plans, walking job sites, and discussing construction-phase details.
  • Able to explain technical systems in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
  • Organized, responsive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple opportunities at once.
  • Technically curious with a strong desire to continually learn about smart home design and technology.
  • Comfortable working with high-end clients, builders, designers, and demanding project environments.

Compensation

This position offers salary plus commission, with compensation based on experience.
