Job description

Temporary Advanced Practitioner (NP or PA)

Short-Term TNS Advanced Practice Provider, Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, provides temporary part‑time clinical support for Northeastern University students under physician supervision. The provider evaluates and treats acute and chronic health concerns, supports triage and same‑day access needs, provides preventive care and health education, and documents care clearly and timely in the electronic medical record. This role collaborates closely with the medical team, nursing staff, medical assistants, and campus partners to ensure safe, student‑centered care.

This is a temporary, part‑time position intended to support clinic coverage based on operational need.

Schedule
  • Up to 24 hours per week, depending on clinic needs. This position is currently approved through April 2026, with extensions considered based on ongoing clinic needs.
  • Weekday shifts only, with anticipated coverage on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Essential Functions
  • Provides direct clinical care: history-taking, physical examinations, assessment, diagnosis, care planning, treatment, health education, and follow-up for students.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing, performs procedures within scope, and prescribes medications or other treatments as clinically indicated.
  • Supports triage and same‑day access needs for acute medical concerns, escalating to emergency services, supervising physicians, or specialty care when appropriate.
  • Documents clinical encounters in the EMR clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Follows established protocols, maintains confidentiality and FERPA compliance, and consults with the supervising physician or care team as needed.
  • Collaborates with nurses, medical assistants, clinicians, campus partners, and outside providers to coordinate care and support student health needs.
Qualifications
  • Current Massachusetts licensure/certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Massachusetts and Federal DEA certificates required.
  • Primary care, urgent care, college health, or student health experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with acute care triage and same‑day clinical decision‑making preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, interviewing, counseling, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact, discretion, cultural humility, and sensitivity in student interactions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with UHCS staff, campus partners, community hospitals, and external health care providers.
