Description

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS), Global Surveillance division is looking for a Principal Engineer Software to join our software team. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required: Secret. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

Design, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve systems and software. Work in an agile development process, collaborate with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototype, and architect complex solutions, support building and test plan execution, perform quality reviews, triage and fix operational issues. Understand the full software development life cycle—including requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

Essential Functions
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians in a lab environment
  • Review, analyze, and incorporate technical requirements into end‑to‑end system architectures
  • Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Work with various team members to integrate functionality with other software components
  • Ability to lead a team and/or provide leadership to drive solutions of complex problems
  • Support software working groups with the customer
  • Develop and share technical documentation and presentations
Basic Qualifications
  • (Principal Engineer Software) Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of experience in software engineering OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience in software engineering.
  • US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance and any program accesses needed. Interim clearance is required to start.
  • Development experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages.
  • Development experience with a scripting language (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Experience developing software in a Linux or Windows environment.
  • Experience with debugging software in both the desktop and target environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Agile software development.
  • Experience with configuration management using industry standard tools and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian/GitLab tool suite, plugins, Git.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Atlassian/GitLab tools.
  • Active certification at DOD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+) or greater.
  • Experience interfacing or presenting to customers.
Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Benefits

Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and share in company results.
