Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain comprehensive project schedules for Controls development, Security software, and software performance.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure infrastructure and data pipelines support real-time robotics requirements.

  • Proactively identify and resolve internal software risks and external hardware dependencies that impact development velocity.

Job description

This role is a pivotal leadership position within the Atlas humanoid program, responsible for orchestrating the development and integration of the robot's most critical "brain" and "nervous system" components. You will bridge the gap between high-level controls research and the rigorous demands of production-grade systems software.
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Atlas Systems Software and Controls, you will directly support the Atlas program management office and engineering leadership to build achievable project plans for the humanoid's core software stack. You will lead the identification of technical risks, manage complex interdependencies between hardware and software, and ensure the predictable execution of critical software milestones.
What You'll Do:
  • Work across multiple teams to build and maintain comprehensive project schedules for Controls development, Security SW, and software performance.
  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Coordinate cross-functional teams, including Behavior, Controls, and Central Software teams to ensure infrastructure and data pipelines support real-time robotics requirements
  • Risk & Dependency Management: Proactively identify and resolve internal software risks and external hardware dependencies that impact development velocity.
  • Communicate regularly on status, schedule, risks, and change control
  • Resourcing: Identify resource requirements and be accountable for executing on company goals and roadmap
  • Coordinate with development, QA, and operations teams to plan and schedule software releases, including feature releases, patches, and updates

We are looking for:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related technical field
  • Technical Experience: 5+ years of direct experience developing or testing software or controls for a complex integrated product
  • Project Management Experience: 3+ years experience managing projects specifically involving robotics software, controls, or real-time systems
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, including the ability to distill complex technical information into concise, easily understood formats while articulating competing priorities
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to build a deep, systems-level understanding of complex robotic platforms to effectively prioritize competing technical needs
  • Experience integrating agile project management methodologies within waterfall frameworks

Nice to have:
  • Middleware: Familiarity with high-performance middleware frameworks for hardware-accelerated task orchestration
  • Security: Experience managing security software development
  • Experience working in an R&D environment balancing research uncertainty and ambiguity with deadlines

The base pay range for this position is between $154,000 to $175,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and an annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
