Job description

Overview:ย 
The Billing Specialist at Atlantic Eye is responsible for managing the billing processes to ensure accurate and timely submission of claims, processing payments, and resolving billing issues. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills to handle sensitive patient information and interact with insurance companies.ย 
ย 
Responsibilities:ย 
  • Prepare and submit insurance claims for services rendered.ย 
  • Post payments from insurance companies and patients.ย 
  • Reconcile payments and resolve discrepancies.ย 
  • Analyze the aging report to identify accounts with overdue balances, focusing on claims that require immediate attention based on age and priority.ย 
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and investigate reasons for denials. ย 
  • Generate and send out patient statements.ย 
  • Handle patient billing inquiries and resolve any issues.ย 
  • Set up and manage payment plans for patients as necessary.ย 
  • Utilize correct coding practices for procedures (CPT, ICD-10).ย 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA.ย 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and secure handling of patient records.ย 

Qualifications:ย 
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (CPC, CCS-P) preferred.ย 
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in ophthalmology.ย 
  • Proficiency with billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.ย 
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, billing procedures, and coding standards.ย 
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.ย 
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.ย 

Education Requirement: ย 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field preferred.ย 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM, Flexibility is key, with occasional availability required on weekends and evenings.ย
