Athletic Training Fellowship information

What is an athletic training fellowship?

An Athletic Training Fellowship is an advanced post-professional program designed to provide certified athletic trainers with specialized training in a specific area, such as orthopedics, rehabilitation, or sports performance. Fellows work under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals, gaining hands-on experience in patient care, injury prevention, and treatment. These programs help athletic trainers refine their clinical skills, expand their knowledge base, and prepare for advanced career opportunities in athletic training or related fields.

What does a typical workweek look like for an athletic training fellow?

Athletic Training Fellows generally split their time between working directly with athletes during practices and events, participating in clinical rotations, and attending educational seminars or workshops. You'll collaborate closely with athletic trainers, physicians, coaches, and sometimes physical therapists to manage athlete care, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. The schedule can include evenings and weekends, depending on team activities and sporting events. This hands-on, collaborative environment provides valuable experience in real-world athletic settings and helps build a strong professional network for your future career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the athletic training fellowship position, and why are they important?

To excel in an Athletic Training Fellowship, you need a solid educational background in athletic training or sports medicine, along with current Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers credentials. Experience with injury evaluation, rehabilitation modalities, electronic medical records, and emergency care procedures is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help fellows interact effectively with athletes, coaches, and healthcare professionals. These competencies ensure safe, high-quality care for athletes while advancing your expertise in sports medicine settings.

Alliance is not only focused on partnering with physical therapy practice owners, we are concerned with the wellness of our patients, and helping industrial worksites prevent onsite injury.
