DEFINITION: The athletic director will be responsible for providing administration and support of Mineral County Jr. High and High School athletic program. The athletic director will promote communication among the members of the athletic department, school and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).
- Organize and schedule all athletic contests in keeping with NIAA and Mineral County High School Regulations and School Board of Trustees.
- Have general supervisory responsibility for all athletic events.
- Direct and evaluate the athletic programs and coaches on a seasonal basis.
- Review the budget of athletic programs and make recommendations to the building principal.
- Secure officials for interscholastic contests.
- Develop a transportation schedule and submit to transportation in a timely manner.
- Acquire various needed equipment and supplies for coaches.
- Compile and disseminate all information to student athletics in regards to student insurance, scholastic requirements, eligibility, training rules and regulations.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of all athletic equipment, noting safety factors and developing a replacement schedule to meet anticipated needs.
- Inspect athletic facilities for maintenance, cleanliness, readiness and safety throughout the school year, and to make necessary recommendations to the principal.
- Attend all conferences, meetings and other athletic meetings as assigned by the principal and disseminate information from these meetings to the coaching staff.
- Approve all fundraising activities undertaken by the athletic department.
- Ensure that coaches have a total understanding and are in compliance with the rules and regulations of the NIAA.
- Assist in screening, interviewing and selecting coaches for board approval.
- See that the public is informed of all athletic events in a meaningful way and on a timely basis.
- Evaluates head coaches, makes effective recommendation to administrators in personnel matters.
- Perform other duties and assumes other reasonable responsibilities as the principal may assign.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Applicant must be able to withstand a State of Nevada law enforcement background check.
Employees assigned to Mineral County High School will be given first consideration. No release time from regular teaching assignments will be paid. Administrative leave will be granted to athletic director to attend NIAA conferences, meetings and other athletic meetings as assigned by the principal.
Since the athletic director has certain supervisory and evaluation responsibilities, extra-curricular coaching assignments or extra-duty assignments will not be allowed without permission of the School Board of Trustees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Knowledgeable about interscholastic athletic program regulations.
- Applicant must be able to withstand a State of Nevada law enforcement background check.
Knowledge of:
- Organize and schedule all athletic contests in keeping with NIAA and Mineral County High School Regulations and school board policy

Required Certifications and Licenses
Required
- A valid elementary or secondary certificate is required.
- ACEP coaching principles or NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
- ACEP Sport First Aid, Red Cross First Aid or NFHS First Aid for Coaches
- Current CPR
- All volunteer coaches and all non-certified (non-teacher) coaches complete Nevada Coaching Education Program (NCEP) requirements to be eligible to coach in Nevada at a NIAA school
Desired
Three years of prior coaching experience is preferred. Supervising, management, budgeting and procurement experience is preferred
