Job description

Overview: 

We are seeking linguists with active ATF clearance to support federal investigations under the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This project-based position involves nationwide travel and requires flexibility, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Linguists will assist with live monitoring, transcription, translation, and interpretation services to support criminal investigations and operations. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, assignments may begin on short notice and involve shift-based schedules, including evenings and weekends.

This is an excellent opportunity for cleared linguists who thrive in dynamic environments and are looking to contribute to high-impact federal law enforcement efforts. This position is contingent on a contract award from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Location: Nationwide (Travel Required)


Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Project-Based


Clearance Requirement: Active ATF Clearance (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and transcribe real-time audio and written communications

  • Translate and interpret from source language to English and vice versa

  • Summarize intercepted communications and prepare investigative reports

  • Attend legal briefings and comply with all operational guidelines

  • Maintain clear and regular communication with the project management team

  • Adhere strictly to confidentiality and security protocols

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Active ATF clearance

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Fluency in English and target language

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional translation/interpreting experience

  • Strong knowledge of slang, regional dialects, and colloquialisms

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools

  • Ability to travel for assignments on short notice

  • Comfortable working under pressure and in fast-paced environments


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior experience supporting law enforcement or intelligence agencies

  • Availability for rotating shifts, including nights and weekends

  • Familiarity with investigative protocols and federal documentation standards
