Location: SBCS Headquarters

Schedule: Monday - Friday: General operating hours are 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Eight-hour workday) Schedule start and end times may vary. Must be available weekday evenings to meet the various needs of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the YPI Program Director and Program Coordinator, the Youth Prevention & Intervention (YPI) Alternatives to Detention (ATD) Youth and Family Development Associate (YFDA), is responsible for providing services to SBCS' clients and the community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission and style and provided within a team framework. Associates are responsible for working with the YPI team, including ATD services, in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives. ATD provides a continuum of detention alternatives to juvenile offenders to foster their success within the community. These trauma-informed services incorporate the entire household to support and empower families.

DUTIES:

• Complete comprehensive family-based assessments for identified youth, including the Family Wellbeing Assessment and the San Diego Risk & Resiliency Checkup Tool.
• Develop strength-based, individualized family treatment plans including goals and objectives.
• Provide family-centered case management services, and other services relative to program goals and objectives agreed upon with the client based on the Assessment to help youth thrive in the community and avoid future or continued involvement in the juvenile justice system.
• Conduct home visits, school visits, and field visits, in addition to office visits to best meet the needs of the youth and family.
• Assist in the planning, coordination, development, monitoring, and evaluation of services for youth and family with an emphasis on quality of care, continuity of services, and cost-effectiveness.
• Maintain case records and client files in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
• Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with other team members and other community partners.
• Appropriate coordination of contacts with other public and private organizations and individuals (e.g. Probation, law enforcement, juvenile court, etc.) as necessary to effectively serve clients. (e.g. progress reports to referral sources, client referrals to other agencies).
• Facilitate weekly evidence-based, trauma-informed center-based groups for youth and/or caregivers.
• Maintain flexible hours, including availability during weekday evenings, to meet the various needs of the program.
• Serve as a liaison between the program and Juvenile Hall in efforts to keep youth out of detention and in the community whenever possible.
• Monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.
• Transport clients in a safe and secure manner in matters related to service delivery.
• Outreach to target population in order to effectively reach those in need of services.
• Participation in special projects and activities as related to agency's goals and objectives.
• Attends all agency meetings, trainings, and special events, such as fundraisers, and open houses.
• Crisis intervention services, and referrals to telephone and walk in persons.
• Participation and assistance in implementing program components.
• Attend all agency required meetings and trainings.
• As other duties assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required in psychology, sociology, child development, criminal justice, social work, or closely related field.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth and family services field. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization.
• Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling, school-based services, outreach, community education and development, advocacy and case management.
• Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Condition of Employment

• Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
• Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC and CBD), in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
• Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy.

Physical demands:

• Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
• Moves throughout the building. 
• Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
• Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
• Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
• Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
• Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.  
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
• Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
• Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
